Visit a nudist colony - top of a bucket list

I have been reading more and more blogs lately that have bucket lists. One of the must do items I see a lot is vacation at a nudist resort or go to a nude beach. Of course like here, sometimes they use the world go to a nudist colony.

Here is an example from a blog I just read:

"Today my husband is celebrating another year! This year is extra special because it’s nearing the end of an era. He will be 30 next year.

To celebrate his youthfulness, some family and friends put together a little list of 29 things to do before turning 30. We pose this to him as a challenge and also offer it up as a way to ensure year 29 is a very memorable one. As he accomplishes the items on the list, I will blog about them as well as include photos where possible; so be sure to check back often!

29 “Must Do” Things Before Turning 30 (listed in no particular order)
1. Swing by your knees on a flying trapeze
2. Teach the cat a trick
3. Develop your own cocktail and name it
4. Take a day trip to the local nudist colony...

For the full list Click here

One of the items "wear a Hawaiian shirt for one day", I do that all the time when I am in public here in Palm Springs. I couldn't imagine not wearing Hawaiian shirts as they are so comfortable.

If you wish is to vacation at a relaxing, fun nudist resort, and put another notch onto your bucket list, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com We are the perfect place for couples trying nude sunbathing for the first time.

Eva mende's mistake on how to get her ad approved

Eva Mendes is a spokesperson for a Calvin Klein perfume. They produced a pretty sexy ad for TV. Because you can see Eva Mendes nipples for a fraction of a second, the FCC banned the ad from American TV.

Eva complains that she would rather see tasteful nudity on TV or in movies than all the violence that passes as entertainment. In most European countries this is true where violent shows can not run until later in the evening protecting children from violence.

As Europeans know violence begets more violence, where nudity is fun. That is why they have a much lower incidence of violence than the US has and why the teenage pregnancy rate is way lower.

I figured out how Eva Mendes could appear nude on the Calvin Klein ad. If she was nude, shooting up people, like in the above picture, the FCC would approve the ad in a heartbeat.

If you want a fun vacation where you can go topless or nude sunbathing, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Eva Mendes says nudity is OK

Eva Mendes is a nudist friendly person. She goes topless sunbathing. And she speaks out about how nudity should be more accepted in the US.

She recently produced a TV ad for Calvin Klein perfume. You could see one of her nipples for a brief second. Thus the ad was banned from running on American TV.

Here is what Eva has to say about the ban:

"NUDITY IS OKAY: Eva Mendes has spoken out about her banned commercial during a trip to Australia.

Eva Mendes has defended her controversial advertisement for Calvin Klein perfume, an ad that was banned from American TV screens for being too raunchy.

Mendes - who flashes her nipple in the ad - has spoken out about the ban, accusing American censors of promoting violence while continuing to ban nudity.

"I'm completely American, I was born and raised in America and I love it but I think we are too quick to censor nudity," Mendes told News.com.au during her current visit to Australia.

"Meanwhile, it's okay to blow things up and our films are so violent and our television is so violent.

"I would rather see tasteful nudity than violence any day of the week."

...The star has also posed topless for animal rights group Peta."

I have to agree with Eva. Why is our goverment so scared of the sight of a bare nipple. Look at the big American uproar over Janet jackson where the rest of the world laughed at our governemtn "leaders."

The only reason I can think of for this fear of nipples is deep down most politicians realize that they really are boobs and nipples rimind them of how incompetent they really are.

Palm Springs Short Film Fest is in full swing this week

The Palm Springs Short Film festival is in full swing. One of our guests even saw Kirsten Dunst this weekend at the festival.

It runs until this Friday August 29th. In its 14 years, it has had 58 short films receive Oscar nominations.

Here is a story from our local newspaper, The Desert Sun. The click thru on this story isn't working so here it is:

"Bruce Fessier • The Desert Sun • August 21, 2008

PALM SPRINGS - It's been called the Sundance of the short film world: a star-studded kickoff to the festival season; a place where deals are made and careers are launched.

With 109 industry representatives and more than 100 members of the media from around the nation, Palm Springs International Short Film Festival and Film Market is arguably America's most important introduction to up-and-coming filmmakers. And it all kicks off tonight at Camelot Theatres.

"Palm Springs is the big fish in the short film pond," said Sharon Badal, short film programmer of the Tribeca Film Festival in New York and author of "Swimming Upstream: A Lifesaving Guide to Short Film Distribution."

"Simply by the fact that Palm Springs has the largest number of short film programs, and the huge marketplace, it is a very ‘A' list gathering for anybody interested in short films."

ShortFest has helped launch major directors such as Rod Lurie ("The Contender") and Jason Reitman ("Juno"). At a preview of his Oscar-nominated film in Palm Springs last December, Reitman credited ShortFest with helping him secure a production deal, leading to his feature film breakthrough "Thank You For Smoking."

ShortFest will screen 317 short films in 51 themed programs over seven days starting at 6:30 tonight with the opening program, Shortsplash, featuring six award-winning films from top international festivals.

It also will make 2,700 short films available for industry viewing in its marketplace, a room Badal likens to a cave in which festival programmers, buyers and producers sit before monitors to scout product and talent.

Festival executive director Darryl Macdonald said Palm Springs has a reputation as the Sundance of short fests, referencing the influential Utah indie event.

"The industry is beating a path to our door," he said. "We're going to have more companies represented this year than ever. Also, more festival programmers will be here. This is considered the kickoff of next year's short film festival season in much the way Sundance is the kickoff of the American indie season."

Like the feature film and indie music festival circuits, the short film festival circuit can now keep filmmakers traveling from festival to festival all year long.

"It has really exploded over the course of the last half-decade," Macdonald said. "There are probably 10 short film festivals in Los Angeles alone."

Palm Springs' status as "the big fish" has attracted some stars. The Saturday night "Shooting Stars" program will feature shorts directed by Kate Hudson, Matthew Modine and Kirsten Dunst. Jessica Biel, who is producing and starring in a film in that program, is slated to appear.

Badal says the new films make this a "must attend" event. ShortFest offers 53 world premieres, 47 North American debuts and 24 U.S. premieres.

Macdonald said the lineup is "jaw-droppingly good."

"The technical quality of the films took another quantum leap this year," he said. "It used to be, when I first started at ShortFest, there were a number of films you wouldn't watch all the way through because you could tell within the first two or three minutes, this is so poorly made.

"This year there were only three or four films I turned off in 10 minutes. That's because the technical quality of the filmmaking is so advanced over what it was five years ago."

Florida predicted to be rainier than normal this winter

Farmers' Almanac which is a 192 year old publication and claims a weather predicting accuracy rate of 80-85% is predicting a wetter than normal winter for the Southeast this winter. That means Florida and the Caribbean will get more rain than usual.

My wife, Mary Clare was born in Tampa, Florida. We tell guests that is why our resort is located in sunny Palm Springs and not rainy Florida, because nude sunbathers love the sunshine and we know Florida is the rainiest state in the nation.

Palm Springs averages less than 3 inches of rain a year, major cities in Florida average from 60-66 inches a year. With about 350 days of sunshine a year, vacationing in Palm Springs should be a no brainer.

However, the state of Florida has major marketing muscle. They came up with the advertising slogan "Sunshine State" to try to convince naive northerners to take their vacations in Florida, the rainiest state in the nation. And it works.

We hear from so many people complaining about their rainy vacations they took in Florida. When we ask why they went to the rainiest state in the nation, they always say they thought Florida was supposed to be sunny.

So vacationers beware!

Here is the prediction:

"LEWISTON, Maine - People worried about the high cost of keeping warm this winter will draw little comfort from the Farmers' Almanac, which predicts below-average temperatures for most of the U.S.

...The almanac's 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least two-thirds of the country can expect colder-than-average temperatures this winter, with only the Far West [meaning Palm Springs] and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.

The almanac predicts above-normal... above-normal precipitation... for the Southeast in January and February. The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions will likely have an unusually wet or snowy February, the almanac said.

...Geiger sticks to his guns, saying the almanac was on target in the 2008 edition when it said the Northeast and the Great Lakes would have a long, cold winter with lots of snow..."

What I will be doing with this blog

I have started a new blog at this address http://theterracottainn.blogspot.com It will not have nude pictures like this blog has.

I am staying with blogger as google owns it and so many people have learned about nudist resorts and nudism from my blog through doing keyword searches on google.

This blog was receiving from 3-4000 new users a day do to google keyword searches. Google is too important to ignore as they index every single new post.

The future of this blog

With Google deciding to censor the popular nudist blogs like this one, I have been having to spend time deciding where to move this blog.

The good thing about our resort is we have been very busy this summer. With all the rainy weather that Florida has been receiving lately, people are starting to realize that sunny Palm Springs is the perfect city to vacation in.

I just haven't had enough time to look to see where to start blogging, keep our guests happy, and write more posts.

I won't abandon blogging, it is just google threw a monkey wrench into the works and now I have to decide what to to.

So bare with me.

Thanks,
Tom

Terra Cotta Inn to be featured on Playboy TV this week August 18th

Playboy TV filmed at The Terra Cotta Inn this spring. They did a fantastic job of showing what it is like to vacation at the best nudist resort in the US, our resort The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. The show is very tastefully produced.

In the above photo, Mary Clare, me, the director, and the 2 major actors are shown.

Playboy makes it very clear that nudist resorts are not sex resorts.

They make it clear that nudist resorts are fun places where you get to enjoy life and socialize with others while naked. Playboy makes it very clear that nudist resorts are NOT swinger resorts.

The show is called 69 Sexy Things to Do Before you Die. And of course one of the 69 sexy things to do is to vacation at our nudist resort. We are very proud of being featured by Playboy. This show comes right after tripadvisor.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world this July.

Here is the schedule this week, so you can watch the show: http://www.playboytv.com/schedule/2008/8/18/show/69-Sexy-Things-2-Do-Before-You-Die-012-%28

Now I do have to say we normally do not have Playboy models lounging around our resort everyday like on the show, so that part is not quite realistic. However, like a regular hotel, we do have guests from their 20's to 70's vacation with us all the time. And what is nice is many of our guests who are from their 30's to 60's volunteered to be filmed by Playboy, so you can see all ages at our resort in a few of the scenes.

And if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, we are considered the most mainstream nudist resort in America.

Should the Olymics go back to being held in the nude?

The original Olympics held in Greece, were held in the nude as it was for beauty and athleticism.

Reading this post, it got me to thinking, since the Olympic outfits are so skimpy, should we go back to the original Olympic ideals of having them held in the nude?

Here is the story:

"Like a billion other people on this planet I've been glued to my TV set watching sports that I previously couldn't care less about. But, now the Olympics are here and they make me realize that there are more sports out there than I could possibly imagine, and that some of those sports involve the wearing of apparel that would otherwise be deemed unworthy to make it into a prime time network show.

Since when did partial nudity become an Olympic pastime? Some of you may be asking yourself, "What is this guy talking about?" Others of you know exactly what I'm talking about. During these first few days of the Olympic Games I've been stunned at some of the uniforms that are so brazenly worn by the athletes. But I'm even more stunned that the censors haven't gone about blurring out every half-butt being exposed on the balance beam.

In this post-Janet Jackson "wardrobe malfunction" world we live in, it's hard to believe the amount of naked skin being shown off at the Olympics. So I decided to create my own awards for the biggest culprits of "Best/Worst Partial Nudity" in this year's Olympics...

Palm Springs Short Film Festival starts Thursday August 21st

The Palm Springs Short Film Festival is a lot of fun. I have attended the Palm Springs Short Film Festival before. The winning film automatically is entered in the Academy Awards as a short film finalist.

Being a more causual film festival, you will sometimes see famous producers, directors, and movie stars in the audience.

The film festival starts this Thursday August 21st and runs to Friday August 29th.

Here is some more information:

"Sundance of short films' comes to Palm Springs
Star-studded event features 317 screenings

Palm Springs film enthusiasts can get their fix of original movies and Hollywood stars starting next week.

The Palm Springs International Short Film Festival and Film Market begins Thursday and continues through Aug. 27 at Camelot Theatres, 2300 E. Baristo.

Known as the ShortFest, the 14th annual event will feature films directed by actresses Kate Hudson and Kirsten Dunst and others starring Jessica Biel, Rainn Wilson, Winona Ryder, Dana Delany, David Arquette, Kurt Russell and Tony Shalhoub.

The ShortFest program is posted on the Palm Springs International Film Society's Web site, http://www.psfilmfest.org and tickets are now on sale.

The festival has been called “the Sundance of short film festivals” because of its appeal to the U.S. film industry. More than 2,700 entries were considered.

Of the 317 films that will be screened during the festival, there will be 53 world premieres, 47 North American and 24 U.S. premieres.

Biel, who was recognized as the 2007 Palm Springs International Film Festival's Rising Star for her role in “The Illusionist,” is expected to attend ShortFest with “Hole in the Paper Sky,” a film she produced and stars in.

Bill Pullman, best known for his role as President Whitmore in 1996's “Independence Day,” also will attend the festival as a juror and instructor of a master class.

The festival has grown to a record size, with 200 more entries in the marketplace than last year, said festival executive director Darryl Macdonald.

The Opening Night: Shortsplash will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Its lineup includes short films that have won awards at some of the key festivals and film events around the world, according to the Palm Springs ShortFest Web site.

Palm Springs moderist architecture featured in Time magazine

Palm Springs and modernist architecture

Palm Springs has more modernist architecture per capita than any other city in the US.

Albert Frey is one of the famous modernist architects of Palm Springs. He designed around 200 properties including our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa.

Time magazine just had an article about renting modernist houses. Well for a lot less you can stay at our resort. We have had many first timers stay with us and one of the reasons they booked was because we are a historic Albert Frey hotel.

"Renting Frank Sinatra's House

It was the city where the Rat Pack partied, Elvis honeymooned and Eisenhower swung the only hole in one of his life. Palm Springs, California's fabled desert oasis, has long been a winter playground for the Hollywood set; the city lies just 100 miles (160 km) east of Los Angeles. But it is also home to an extensive array of beautifully preserved Modernist structures that have turned this golf-and-cocktails resort town into a must-see destination for devotees of architecture.

For several decades in the middle of the 20th century, internationally renowned architects such as Richard Neutra and John Lautner--who is currently the subject of a retrospective at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles--created audacious buildings in Palm Springs that helped revolutionize the way Americans lived and played. Out went stuffy Victorian parlors; in came sleek, glass-walled structures that blurred the line between indoors and out. The bulk of what these architects designed was residential, which meant the only way to see one of the buildings back then was to have Frank Sinatra invite you over for drinks. Today, though, many Modernist homes are available as vacation rentals, including the long, lean, flat-roofed manse that once belonged to the Chairman of the Board himself.

Renting one of these houses can be an intimate way to get to know the city, to see a side of it that can't be found on the noisy pool deck of a chain hotel...

And then there's Twin Palms. The Sinatra estate, designed by local architect E. Stewart Williams in 1946, has four bedrooms, ample areas for entertaining and one very thick shag rug. "You can sit by the piano-shaped pool and sip cocktails from the retro bar," says Kevin Blessing, CEO of Beau Monde Villas, which manages the house...

New spa treatments available at Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs

We are very proud to announce that we have a new part time massage
therapist named Lynne who know works with us. She comes from Two
Bunch Palms hotel which according to Conde Nast Traveler magazine is
ranked as one of the 10 best spas in the world.

Above is a picture of Mary Clare getting a Watsu massage from Lynne.

Here in Palm Springs, we have been very busy. This will be our best
August in our history. As nudists are cutting back on vacationing in
Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean they are flocking here to
Terra Cotta as we are still the best value nudist resort in the US.

Other textile hotels are not as busy here in town such as Two Bunch
Palms, so Lynne is now working part time with us. She is one of their
top therapists. She is trained in many spa treatments from Watsu
massage, to reiki massage, to hot stones, to shiatsu, to deep tissue. She has over 20years of massage experience.

Of course we still have the regular swedish massage that we have
always offered.

We can now offer couples and tandem massages too.

Because Lynne is very popular, you should book her in advance. Give
us a call at 800-786-6938 to book a massage with Lynne or Renska. You
will be very happy that you did.

Sandy Hook nude beach in NY has another positive story

Sandy Hook nude beach in NJ also called Gunnison beach was on channel 4 in the NY area. They filmed a very positive story about the beach.

In the US, the 2 most successful popular nude baches are Sandy Hook and Haulover beaches and they are both LEGAL nude beaches. Contrast this to here in Southern California where a closed minded bureaucrat wants to close down the popular San Onofre nude beach.

Here is the story:

"Baring All About Sandy Hook’s Nude Beach

OK, let's get this out of the way upfront. Yeah, I looked. Wouldn't you?

But I didn't gawk! And no, in reporting the story I didn't strip.

At Sandy Hook's Gunnison Beach, with an official -- that's right, official -- clothing optional policy, as many as 5,000 people on a sunny weekend summer day make this the first of the Hook's beaches to put a "closed" sign on the parking lot.

And still they come, even by ferry from Manhattan.

All joking aside, this, I found out, is a serious lifestyle by young and old, fat and skinny--and in between.

As Dale Delasio, president of Friends of Gunnison tells me, you won't find any Kens and Barbies here. Well, that's what she told me, but I actually did see some naked bodies that men and women could appreciate...

It's called naturism, and to me the funny thing was that after being there for just a few minutes, I quickly found that, to use a cliché, "you seen one, you seen 'em all."

Face it, we live in a sex obsessed society, from the most popular Web sites to advertising too much of our political debate...

As Kelly Thiene told me, there is a freedom, a sort of equality in seeing our fellow human beings au natural.

A character who goes by the moniker of Mayor Bob explained, they're the people you work with, live across the street from, or even socialize with (I found out one of my tennis partners is a Naturist, and a former News 4 New York photographer, recently retired, is a card-carrying member of Friends of Gunnison).

There was an initial reluctance by FoG and the National Park Service to allow us what may have been the first ever TV camera access to Gunnison. And more than a few people there were passively, or even actively hostile to our presence.

I can only hope the story, which you can see for yourself, does this lifestyle justice..."

Elvis Presley's Palm Springs estate is up for sale

Elvis Presley's estate in Palm Springs is now for sale. If you ever wanted to buy some history, now is the time.

Palm Springs is the coolest vacation destination in the US. There is so much Hollywood history in our town. Lots of movie stars have or had homes here.

Elvis Presley honeymooned here and later bought a home. It is now up for sale.

Here's the story:

"Elvis Presley's Palm Springs Home On The Market

Some names add cachet to a house years after they have moved on. Elvis Presley definitely falls into that category. Now his Palm Springs home, basically his "Graceland West" is up for sale... The home is located in the foothills of the San Jacinto Mountains in Palm Springs. Elvis lived in the home for almost eight years (he purchased it in 1970) and spent his last birthday there.

The approximately 5,000 square foot home has four bedrooms. Architect Albert Frey designed the Spanish-style stucco home which includes Presley's bedroom suite with two complete bathrooms, a sunken black and red tile tub, and dressing area. The living room has a cathedral beamed ceiling and overlooks the pool. The home is being sold with Presley's original kitchen appliances, a separate indoor sauna and steam room, plus his private covered Jacuzzi...

The property is approximately two acres and is listed at $17 million. For more information about the property, or to request a showing, contact Honey Brooks at 415.435.2585

Palm Springs short film festival runs August 21-29

I have gone to the Palm Springs short film festival before. It is also called Palm Springs ShortFest. It is a lot of fun. You can actually talk to directors and the actors and actresses.

The Palm Springs ShortFest is very important as the winner of the festival automatically is entered into the Academy Awards for best short film. This year for instance Kate Hudson will debut her short film.

General admission tickets to the Palm Springs ShortFest go on sale Thursday online and at the Camelot Theatres box office. Call 760-778-8979 for ticket information.

The film schedule was posted Monday at http://psfilmfest.org

The 14th annual festival, featuring 317 short films selected from more than 2,700 worldwide entries. Jessical Biel and Bill Pullman are expected to attend with filmmakers and nationally known critics.

All film entries will be available for industry viewing, as indicated by the event’s full name, the Palm Springs International ShortFest Short Film Festival and Film Market.

We still have rooms available here at the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa. For information or to book a room, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Google decides to give nudist blogs a warnning page.

This Saturday this is what I woke to from google:

"Content Warning
Some readers of this blog have contacted Google because they believe this blog's content is objectionable. In general, Google does not review nor do we endorse the content of this or any blog. For more information about our content policies, please visit the Blogger Terms of Service

I understand and I wish to continue"

Other blogs using googles blogspot.com like http://nudiarist.blogspot.com got the same warning.

While you luckily can still read this blog, what that warning page means is the search engines will no longer index my posts and most of my previous posts that have been indexed have now disappeared from the search engines. So google might just as well have censored all nudist blogs.

I will still keep this blog active while I think of a domain name and start blogging elsewhere. I will keep everyone informed.

It is very sad that google chose to censor nudist blogs.

If google had just put up that warning page and not stopped indexing the blog and key words, then this blog would still be educating new readers. However, it will be hard now for new readers to find this blog through keyword searches.

Nudist Resorts- People love learning about them

People are fascinated by clothing optional resorts and nudist resorts. In my previous post, I mentioned that today marked the day that I had 2 million views on this blog. Now I know most people who read this blog are not going to vacation at our nudist resort, The Terra Cotta Inn, Palm Springs, they are just fascinated to learn more about them.

Well our Convention Visitors Authority is currently running an ad campaign with Alsaska airlines at http://palmspringsoffers.com on the west coast. 49 hotels are participating. This is the latest click through rate for the hotels.

Yes, our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort was the #1 clicked on resort of all resorts on the website. What is even more amazing is the listings are done alphabetically, so we are the 8th from the bottom. (For instance Casa Cody has a lot of click throughs as it is one of the first ones appearing on the lists).

Also we are not even in all catagories like the Marriott hotel as they are also listed under family fun and golf getaways sections.

This just shows that people really want to learn more about nudist resorts.

Today, the Terra Cotta Inn blog has been viewed 2 million times

I started the Terra Cotta Inn blog a little over 2 years ago. I use http://statcounter.com to keep track of how many people have viewed this blog. Early this morning, it cracked the 2 million mark. Now many of the readers are repeats, so it is not 2 million people that read this blog. The blog has just been clicked on 2 million times.

I am very honored that so many people have found this blog interesting enough to view it that often.

Now looking at the stats, I don't fool myself, I see that around 70% of people click away within 5 seconds. Those are probably the people who type in key words like Sienna Miller topless or nude, etc. They are looking for an adult site, not a nudist site.

However, 30% of people spend more than 30 seconds each day on this blog which means they read the stories.

I hope everyone enjoys reading what I write.

So thank you everyone for stopping by to see what I post. It is an honor to write about nudism and nudist resorts.

Edmonton Journal writer proud of winning Canadian Naturism award for writing

Our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional resort and Spa is a business members of FCN which is the Federation of Canadian Naturists. They do the same work in promoting naturism in Canada that AANR does in promoting nudism in the US.

It is funny that since Canadians are a little bit more British oriented, they use the words naturist and naturism, where most Americans use the worlds nudist and nudism. Oh well, it is like the song "You say potato, I say potato...

Anyway, An Edmonton Journal writer won an award from the FCN and other Canadian naturist organizations (of course they have to have a french speaking organization).
She writes she is very proud of her award.

Here is what she has to say:

"Salad Daze
More Journal blogs
Meet the best nudism writer in Canada
I wanted to let you know, dear readers, that I have won a very special sort of writing prize. Not a National Newspaper Award, or a fellowship, or a grant. No, no, those are soooo overrated. The prize I've won is a specialty award, an exclusive sort of award that not just any old writer with a keyboard and a pocketful of trendy adverbs can claim.

Read it and weep: I have won the prize for: the best article about naturism in English to have appeared in the non-naturist print media in Canada during 2007. This award is presented by the Fondation naturiste du Québec in association with the Fédération québécoise de naturisme and the Federation of Canadian Naturists.

Yes, that's me! The Edmonton Journal's resident nudism beat reporter, Elizabeth Withey!

Note this prestigious award comes with a certificate and a $150 cash prize. Far out.

Honestly, winning this prize has made my WHOLE SUMMER. It truly has. I remember, shortly after I wrote the article so so long ago, that someone emailed me and said they'd entered my story in the contest. At the time, I thought, now wouldn't THAT be a hoot...and then I promptly forgot about it. Now, 18 months later....victory!...

Perhaps you've detected a trace of silliness, even mockery, in this posting. It is all affectionate teasing. I am actually quite proud of this win (and I'm not just saying that because I haven't yet received my prize money). It's an honour to be recognized with a writing award of any sort...even the Grade 10 writing award in rural Saskatchewan (yup, I nabbed that one too). So, thanks, FQN/FCN. Truly. I am chuffed. I love it. I mean, how many people can put "award-winning nudism journalist" on their CVs? It's terrific.

To read here story: click here

It is nice that this reporter actually participated in the nude swim and had a fun time. Ms. Withey, if you are in Palm Springs, you are invited to come spend a fun day at our resort. Earlier this year, Canada.com picked us as one of the best places in the world to go nude sunbathing. So I hope to meet you someday.

United Airlines Airfare Sale to Palm Springs Ends Midnight Friday August 8th for summer and fall travel

Airline rates have been rising all year. Yet, the airlines have been having some pretty good airfare sales. One of our guests, Glenn, e-mailed me that he saved $600 on his airfare to Palm Springs because I pointed out an Alaska Airlines airfare sale.

Tonight United Airlines kicked off a 2 day airfare sale in the US. The sale ends this Friday August 8th at midnight Central time.

Here is some of the details from United's site:

November 20, 2008
Travel is valid on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday; travel on other days of the week is slightly higher

Just this July, tripadvisor.com picked us as one of the 10 best clothing resorts in the world. This is on top of Canada.com earlier this year picking us as one of the best places in the world to go nude sunbathing and AOL.com picking us as one of the 10 best clothing optional resorts in the world last year.

Just 1 month left to take advantage of Terra Cotta Inn's summertime room sale

How can we make the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa even more popular in the summer? By having a room sale. Every July and August, we have our famous stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced room sale on Sunday thru Thursday nights. And for an even better rate, we have we discount our already discounted weekly summer rates by an additional $100.

You have only 1 month left to take advantage of these special rates.

This sale is very popular. We can even sell out midweek in the summer, where other places are pretty empty midweek because of this great bargain. For instance, tonight Monday, August 4th we are 100% full where most other hotels in palm Springs are pretty empty.

We are also very popular in the summer as we are now the only hotel in Palm Springs that has a state of the art high pressure misting - cooling system poolside. (The Ritz Carlton is undergoing a $500 million renovation and are closed, so we will see if they keep their high pressure poolside misting system like ours when they re-open).

We even upgraded our cooling system this spring to a stainless steel line, so we now have the most effective poolside cooling system of all hotels in Palm Springs. We also upgraded to a salt water pool and jacuzzi which is wonderful on your skin.

With a salt water pool, you can be in the water for hours and don't get all that itchiness like you do from chlorine pools. Just this spring, the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas put out a press release bragging that their premier pool is now a salt water pool, and that they are the only hotel on the Las Vegas strip to care enough about their guests to go salt water.

We invested in a salt water pool 2 1/2 years ago as soon as our county allowed commercial pools to go salt water. So we are way ahead of all the big hotels in Las Vegas. And none of them have invested in high pressure cooling systems poolside.

Right now we have rooms available in August, but we do book up fast. Our regular rooms start at $149/couple/midweek and $169 on weekends. Our weekly rates are discounted to $859/couple/week. We include complementary breakfast and wine and snacks, early check in (10am) and late check out (5pm) at no extra charge.

Give us a call at 800-786-6938 to make reservations. We answer the phones from
8am-10pm PST.

People forget, the original Olympics were held in the nude

Some British Olympic athletes are featured nude in a Powerade commercial. What do people complain about? Do they complain that the athletes who are supposedly amateurs are doing commercials? No.

The prudes complain that they are nude.

Now of course non nudists probably don't know that the original Olympics in Greece were held in the nude.

There is an interesting blog post in a Seattle newspaper asking readers what they thought if the athletes went back to the origin of the Olympics and performed nude. Here it is:

"Let's get back to the roots of the games, back when there wasn't political upheaval every time the Olympic Games began, back when it was just for the sake of playing the game, back when everyone competed naked.

Wait, what?

That's what the Poynter Institute's Roy Peter Clark said in his online column. Yes, he won't be watching the games this year, and one reason is the dress code.

"The athletes in the original Olympic Games performed in their birthday suits. So what have we done with some of the best bodies on the planet -- those belonging to Olympic swimmers? We wrapped them up in some space-age, performance-enhancing swimsuit. Thank, God, at least, for beach volleyball."

...Would you be more apt to watch the games if the athletes were going for the gold in their birthday suits?

For the full story click here

Also is it worse for an athelete to posed nude for a Powerade commercial or pose nude for a Playboy pictorial like Amanda Beard did?

Personally, I don't see the big deal of being nude period.

More about topless sunbathing for first timers

At tribe.net, I came across this post about topless sunbathing from a woman named Lizz. Here it is:

"Lizz...
I totally want to do some topless sunbathing. It's so not my personality, I'm usually pretty modest, but I figure, it's Vegas, why not?"

For the full post click here

We just celebrated our wedding anniversary at Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas. They have a topless pool there. It is pretty well run in our opinion. They call it European style sunbathing to make it sound more exotic. The pool is 21 and over, so you don't have noisy kids. They limit the amount of single men allowed so women feel comfortable, and most women are topless sunbathing at that pool.

Now one of the downsides is there is hardly any shade there unless you want to spend around $350/day for a cabana. Also they don't have a high pressure misting system or salt water pool like we have at Terra Cotta Inn.

We were there midweek and it was pretty busy. Maybe 60 men and 40 women were there. Unlike our resort, the people did not talk with other couples. They sat by themselves unless they already knew each other. Now we of course did talk to other people as we wanted to learn why people went to the topless pool at Mandalay Bay. We talked with some of the employees and they said on saturday and Sundays it was mobbed and much more of a party atmosphere.

It was a warm day and without misters people kept going into and out of the pool to cool off which was great for us to talk with people.

We probably talked to at least 10 women some with a husband/boyfriend. We introduced ourselves as owning The Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs. That easily broke the ice. We found that for everyone except for 1 couple, this was their first time topless sunbathing. The other couple had topless sunbathed at Mandalay Bay before.

All of the women did not intend to go topless sunbathing when they originally booked Mandalay Bay. However, their husbands/boyfriends encouraged them to try it. Every single woman sad it was fun and they would do it again. Os to them it was a spur of the moment thing.

We asked would you ever go to a nudist resort. All of the women said no. They told us nudist resorts were for old people (thanks mass media for giving that impression to Americans). All the women we talked to were from around age 25-50. However, all of the women said they would try a clothing optional resort as long as they could just go topless sunbathing (not nude). That is encouraging. Like Lizz who I quote at the start of this story, many women will give topless sunbathing a try as they think it would be cool and fun, but are not as open for nude sunbathing That is one of the reasons we have always called our nudist resort a clothing optional resort.

We talked with 3 pairs of women that were there for a girlfriend getaway. At our resort, we rarely see girlfriends coming here for a vacation, yet in Las Vegas it is very common. The women also mentioned seeing the ads for topless sunbathing at Mandalay Bay and deciding to give it a try since they liked sunbathing.

All the guys we talked to said they would love to go to our resort with their wife/girlfriends.

What we learned is there is definitely a market for girlfriend getaways that nudist resorts are not tapping into and a lot of people want to try nude sunbathing, they just don't know where to go to find a nice safe place.

Also it seems if nude sunbathing were easier to get to like at Mandalay Bay you just walk out to the pool area, more people would try it.

So if you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Topless sunbathing creates future nudists

Women are normally more nervous than men about trying a vacation at a nudist resort for the first time. One of the things we do here at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa to make women feel more comfortable is we allow women to go topless sunbathing if they choose and then when they are more comfortable, they can go nude sunbathing. We find that probably 95% of women feel comfortable very fast and go nude sunbathing by the time they leave our nudist resort.

We have had a few naturist "experts" tell us throughout the years that we are running our business wrong. They told us we need to be nudity mandatory at the pool as first timers will feel more comfortable that way. The interesting thing is these "experts" were always guys giving us this advice.

I just read on a nudist forum that a naturist resort is going back to strictly enforcing their nudity mandatory policy at the pool. Here is what was written by a guy agreeing with this policy:

"They're enforcing the "nudity required" rules in and around the pools, which is becoming especially important now that the resort is seeing first-time naturists visiting (first-timers will be particularly uncomfortable when people around them aren't fully nude)."

There is a reason why we have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in Palm Springs. Women feel very comfortable at our resort, especially first timers.
Women are never comfortable being told that they MUST be nude. In my opinion, that rule will backfire with first timers.

We normally average around a 75-80% repeat guest rate. All of our repeats are nude at the pool. So our first timers see our repeat guests comfortably nude sunbathing at the pool and quickly become very comfortable nude sunbathing themselves. They don't have to be forced to be nude, they want to be because they are given a choice.

The only reason why a nudist resort might have to have a nudity mandatory rule that I can think of is maybe they have a low occupancy rate, so first timers out number the repeats.

If you have always wanted to try topless or nude sunbathing at one of the best clothing optional resorts in the world according to tripadvisor.com, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Hawaii Toursim Head busted having porn on his government computer

Personally I could care less what people look at on the internet except for some disgusting, illegal areas like child porn, etc.

Now for work, I guess I am more conservative since my background is as an accountant. I feel that when you are working, you should be spending time promoting or working for your employer, not exploring porn on the net.

It seems the CEO of the Hawaiii Tourism Authority appears to disagree with my work philosophy. It appears he liked to surf the net for and down load, internet porn on his work computer and then e-mail it to others.

Here's the story:

"CEO Accused of Having Explicit Content in Email

X-rated movie clips and pictures of adult nudity - those are some of the things Rex Johnson, CEO of the Hawaii Tourism Authority is accused of having in his email.

The adult content was on his government computer and he forwarded several of the emails to others. At issue is the unauthorized use of state computers for accessing or downloading sexually explicit material.

The tourism authority board will have an executive session next Wednesday on how to handle the situation.

For the story click here

Here the issue is this person is supposed to be trying to get more tourists to the state of Hawaii. How much work time did he waste with internet porn. It is hard enough operating a hotel. You expect your state tax dollars to promote your area for tourism since people spend so much on bed taxes.

I for one have no sympathy if he is guilty. He is being paid to promote the state of Hawaii not get his jollies from looking at porn.

Nudism has nothing to do with porn. Actually I think porn is pretty boring. I bet if nude beaches were legal all over the US, there would be a lot less internet porn here in America.

And if you want to go topless or nude sunbathing at one of the best clothing optional resorts in the world, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Travelocity airfares sale to Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs is beautiful in the summer. We are the sunniest city in America. It almost never rains in Palm Springs as we average less then 3 inches of rain a year. Our weather is perfect for topless and nude sunbathing.
