Terra Cotta Inn has 3 rooms available this Friday and Sat Aug 3rd and 4th

Summer is beautiful in Palm Springs. We have endless sunshine as Palm Springs is the sunniest city in America.

Because we invested in a high pressure misting system poolside and salt water system pool and jacuzzi, you can stay nice and comfortable in the sun all day long.

We also have big 9 foot market umbrellas for guests who like to be nude in the shade.

Salt water pools are fantastic as we don't have to use all the harsh chemicals like other hotels have to use.

In July and August, we run our midweek special on Monday thru Thurs of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. We still have some rooms available midweek this August.

And every so often we have availability on weekends such as this one.

So if you have ever wanted to try nude or even topless sunbathing at the most mainstream nudist resort in America, give us a call at 800-786-6938. We answer the phones from 8am-10pm PST.

Why do nudist resorts always book families and all the kids?

Here is a article that I saw in the Spokane, WA Spokesman Review that was originally in LA weekly.

It talks about how annoying it is taking vacations with noisy kids around.

Here at The Terra Cotta Inn, we are 17 rooms. We don't book kids. We are just like the Grand Lido Braco or Negril in Jamaica where we pamper our adult guests.

Almost all nudist resorts are just weekend getaways. They ask why don't they have more customers. My guests tell me one of the biggest reasons they will not go to other places is they don't want to have to put up with noisy naked kids and teenagers.

IMO, if you want to be a successful nudist resort, you can not be all things to all people. If you want people to book 1 and 2 week long vacations like our guests do, you need to cater to adults not families and their kids on weekends.

This was really brought home to us last week when we were in Las Vegas. People we talked with told us the biggest mistake Las Vegas ever made in marketing was a few years ago when they announced they were going to become family friendly.

BOOM!!! Immediately that is when other gambling places like Macau and Dubai really took off. They drove away customers. It took a few years and losses of from people not booking in Vegas for their tourism department to realize their big marketing mistake of going family friendly.

So if you want a nice nude vacation without all the noisy kids, give us, the Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!

Have fun reading the article.

No relief from pint-size tyrants
Marc Cooper
LA Weekly
July 28, 2007

Since her infancy, my now-adult daughter and I have ritualized every summer with a week spent lurking as lizards at one or another blazing hot Southwestern desert resort... what we seek during these annual pilgrimages are the crass bourgeois pleasures offered up by posh resorts at summer discount rates.

We look forward all year to soaking in the shallow end of a bath-temperature pool for hours, yes days, at a time and, under our wide-brimmed straw hats, plowing through crime thrillers and the latest biographies. We float on air mattresses, stare up at the still palms, doze under our shades, sip daiquiris and gaze at the pastel-colored hills during the golden hour of sunset. We lust for the triple-digit heat that, in the still desert hush, seems to burn away all our accumulated stress.

But with each passing year, our sun-fueled retreat becomes increasingly difficult to achieve.

I blame it on the tyrants of summer. No more than 4 feet tall, armed with goggles, floaties, rubber balls and an unbridled sense of entitlement, these pint-size despots have become the bane of our summer vacation. During last week's stay in a lush property near Palm Springs – one with more than two dozen pools – my daughter and I found ourselves, much like Bedouins, caravanning from one oasis to another in a mostly futile search for simple serenity.

No matter where we landed, we were tormented by a universe of children splashing, throwing balls over our heads, yelling, cannon-balling, whining, moaning, putting their doggies into the water and endlessly and vociferously demanding and demanding and demanding. (Maybe we should recognize a new malady known as secondhand noise.) Even more cloying were their doting parents, who egged on the dunking and handstands when they weren't fussing over another lathering of SPF 50.

...We're so far down this road to perdition, I doubt there's much to be done to satisfy an old grump like me (or a much younger one like my daughter). Other than a bar, a casino or a strip club, what purely adult spaces remain in America?

...So if we can't get some voluntary cooperation, what would be so wrong with a little old-fashioned enforced segregation? How about more resorts and hotels with separate-but-equal pools for kids and adults? How about designated "quiet" zones for those allergic to yelps of "Marco," "Polo"?...

Eva Mendes and Joss Stone get Naked for Jane Magazine

It is nice that Eva Mendes and the British singer Joss Stone appeared naked in Jane magazine. Jane has been one of the better magazines in writing positive articles about women's body images.

Eva Mendes was even nude on the cover of the magazine as you can see.

So many of the women's magazines make woman feel so bad about their bodies, it is difficult to make them feel comfortable enough to finally go nude or topless sunbathing. That is a shame.

And then to read Joss Stone say she wore flip flops all the time because the guy she was with made her feel bad about being tall. That is a crime. It is good that she now feels comfortable enough to be nude in Jane.

Here is a review of the article:

"Eva Mendes and Joss Stone Get Naked For Jane

With the epidemic of poor body image tearing across the planet, it’s nice to see some women proudly bearing all that Mother Nature gave them. And for Eva Mendes, doing the cover of Jane Magazine in her birthday suit was fun.

The 33-year-old Hitch actress reveals that she doesn’t attribute her great shape to her diet. She says, it’s just a natural thing, and enjoys junk food because she’s so happy with her shape...

And Mendes refuses to gripe about her figure. “I’m thankful that I’m healthy and that I have my limbs and a nice physique. Of course, there are things anybody wishes they didn’t have or wishes there were more of, but why even bring that up? I think it comes off as bratty.”

...Joss saw the opportunity to show the world how happy she is with her body, and she jumped on it.

It also may have had something to do with the fact that she is getting over a relationship, and wanted to do something independent. “I didn’t wear high-heeled shoes for the longest time. I would wear flip-flops because the guy I was with hated that I was tall - and tall can be beautiful! But because he hated it, it made me feel really insecure and I would try and make myself smaller - and that’s ridiculous. So now I wear great big f*ck off heels!”

At least Las Vegas does not consider topless pools "racy"

We were just at the Caesars Palace for out anniversary. I will be reporting on the topless pool scene (or as they like to call it (European style sunbathing) in Las Vegas and our vacation for the next few days.

I just came across this article printed on Wed.

The one thing to say is Las Vegas topless pools have to be the most sterile, boring topless pools or beaches that we have ever been to.

This was so surprising to us as Las Vegas was "built" by promoting topless women.

The picture above for instance is a topless statue right in the lobby where you register at Caesars Palace. Now since that casino is trying to recreate the Roman times, it is only logical that they have "authentic" looking statues which depict topless or nude women since that was the style in old Rome.

But, at the same time many other places trying to "recreate" old Rome sanitize the statues by having the women all wear togas.

Here is the article:

"By Our Partners at the Las Vegas Sun

How far is too far when it comes to adult entertainment?

That question is surfacing more often with this summer's proliferation of topless pool areas and bikini-clad cocktail servers. While state and local authorities sanction these along with the topless stage shows that have made Las Vegas an international icon, the Gaming Control Board, at least historically, has maintained a dim view of their racier cousins in the strip club business."

Enticing, All Over Suntan Special Offer in Palm Springs, CA

August is the most popular time of the year for vacations. The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA has a great summertime nude sunbathing special offer. Make this the year that you finally get rid of those funny tan lines for good.

Palm Springs, CA, July 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Does vacationing at a clothing optional resort sound far fetched? Well it shouldn't. According to Forbes magazine, traveling to nudist resorts and nude beaches is the fastest growing trend in the travel industry.

A recent Roper poll revealed 25% of Americans have gone skinny dipping in mixed company. Now you have the chance to renew that fun you had when you enjoyed the sun and water wearing nothing but sunblock and a smile.

What are the biggest reasons why more people don't vacation at nudist resorts? The excuses are many, but they boil down to people are afraid of the unknown.

People will say they are "too short, tall, thin, heavy, young, old, etc." Then some think only buff people or models go to nudist resorts. Nervous women always use the excuse that they need to lose more weight. Some even think they are too busty or not buxom enough to fit in at clothing optional resorts.

All of these excuses are so untrue. Everyone can enjoy the fun of clothes free resorts no matter what their age or body type.

People are fascinated by nudist resorts. That is why the media reports on them all the time.

People really want to try nudist resorts, which is why it is the fastest growing vacation trend. Unfortunately, many people who would benefit by the relaxation and fun, never get to go, because they nervously make up excuses.

August is the perfect time to finally work up the courage and try topless or nude sunbathing. And The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional Resort and Spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA http://sunnyfun.com makes it easy with their annual nude sunbathing special offer.

The Terra Cotta Inn is the perfect place for couples to have their first nude sunbathing experience. Called the most mainstream clothing optional resort in America, people from around the world go there for their first au naturel vacation experience.

The staff of The Terra Cotta Inn work very hard to make their guests feel very comfortable and have fun. No pressure is ever put on guests to disrobe immediately like at most nudist resorts. If a woman wants to topless sunbathe at first, that is perfectly Ok.

Putting their guests concerns first is a very successful strategy. The Terra Cotta Inn averages over a 75% repeat guest rate which is one of the highest in the nude sunbathing and travel industries.

Guests love vacationing in the summer at The Terra Cotta Inn. First, Palm Springs is the sunniest city in America. You never have to worry about it raining on your vacation there like you do in Florida or the Caribbean. Next, Palm Springs is a desert. It has low humidity, which makes it wonderful for clothes free sunbathing.

Terra Cotta has a state of the art high pressure poolside misting/cooling system to keep you comfortably cool. They have also invested in a salt water system pool and jacuzzi. They don't have to use all the harsh chemicals like the other hotels and resorts. The waters are very gentle on your bare skin. As one of the few hotels in Palm Springs with a salt water pool and jacuzzi, it is no wonder they have one of the highest occupancy rates of all hotels in town. Finally, they have big 9 foot market umbrellas for shade for those sun sensitive guests.

Make this summer the year you finally say goodbye to your tan lines. From now until August 30th on Monday through Thursdays, they are running a special. When you stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. Rates start at $149/couple/night midweek. And if you book a weeklong vacation like many of the repeat guests do, the already discounted weekly rates are reduced by an additional $100/week to only $859/couple/week.

All rooms include complementary breakfast and afternoon snacks. To take advantage of the beautiful summer weather in Palm Springs, The Terra Cota Inn even has complementary early check in (10:00am) and late check out (5:00pm).

So make this the year for your best vacation ever. Book The Terra Cotta Inn, where tan lines will become just another pleasant memory.

Never, Ever Believe weather forecasts about Palm Springs, CA

On July 18th, below is the weather that was forcast for Palm Springs, California
on the internet for the week starting July 22nd. You can see for yourselves how
WRONG internet weather forcasts are concerning Palm Springs.

When it comes to predicting rain in Palm Springs, the internet is NEVER right. I
would bet this year the internet has forcast rain 30% of the time, yet we have
only had 3 days of rain for a total of 0.07 inches for ALL of 2007 to date.

Palm Springs is the sunniest city in America. There is no sunnier city than
ours. Yet, the incompetent weather forecasters on the internet seem to always
predict rain or clouds.

What is worse than weather forecasters that are always wrong? It is sad to
think, but there are actually people who don't know any better and believe them.
And they miss out on having fun and nude sunbathing in Palm Springs because they wrongly think
weather forecasts are accurate.

Palm Springs does NOT have a national weather service office. It was
closed down years ago in order for the Federal government to save
money. So Weather.com and all the other sites that use the national
weather service data to predict weather use the closest National weather service
office to Palm Springs which happens to be Los Angeles airport which is right
next to the ocean. LAX does get rain more often than Palm Springs (around 15
inches a year).

So when you think you are reading Palm Springs's weather forcasts about rain, it
is really LAX's weather forecast.

Years ago, the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce took Weather.com off
of their website when we determined that weather.com predicted rain
for Palm Springs more often than they did for Miami Florida.

Miami, which is one of the rainiest cities in America, averages
over 60 inches of rain a year. Palm Springs averages less then 3
inches. Yet, the idiots at weather.com predicted it would rain here more often
than Miami. Go figure.

So, NEVER be scared away from a vacation in Palm Springs because of
what the internet weather sites say. Otherwise you will never be able
to vacation here as it always seems like all weather.com does is
predict bad weather for us, the sunniest city in America.

This is what was forcast for Palm Springs as of Wednesday July 18th:

Prediction: Sunday
Jul 22 T-storms
Hi: 106° Lo: 79°
Slight chance of thunder with light rain showers. High 106F and low
79F. Winds SW at 10 to 15 mph.
15%
Reality: WRONG!!! Sun and clouds. Beautiful weather. Guests had a
great time. High of 106F.

Prediction: Monday
Jul 23 T-storms
Hi: 107° Lo: 79°
Slight chance of thunder with light rain showers. High 107F and low
79F.
15%
Reality: WRONG!!! 100% SUN. Not a single cloud covered the sun
all day long. Beautiful weather. Guests had a great time.

Prediction:Tuesday
Jul 24 T-storms
Hi: 107° Lo: 75°
Slight chance of thunder with light rain showers. High 107F and low
75F.
20%
Reality: WRONG As ALWAYS!!! 100% sunny!

Prediction: Wednesday
Jul 25 AM Rain
Hi: 95° Lo: 75°
Cloudy with drizzle. High 95F and low 75F.
25%
Reality: WRONG!!! 100% sunny

Prediction:Thursday
Jul 26 AM Rain
Hi: 98° Lo: 78°
Drizzle. High 98F and low 78F.
30%
Reality: WRONG!!! 100% sunny

Years ago, there was the Southern California weather person convention in Palm
Springs. The director of the Palm Springs Dept. of Tourism gave the welcoming
speech. She asked the weather forecasters why they always predicted rain for
Palm Springs since we are the sunniest city in America? She told them that they
really hurt the tourist industry in town because so many people don't know any
better and actually believe what they predict.

She was told that since Palm Springs is a popular vacation destination, they
would rather predict bad weather like rain or clouds even if there is only a
statistical 5% chance for bad weather, because if they predict bad weather and
it is good, no one ever complains to their bosses.

But, if they predict good weather and there is that rare chance it is bad, they
get lots of complaints and their jobs could be on the line. The director was
told, they don't care if they hurt the tourist industry in Palm Springs or
other cities, they care more about whether they get complaints.

So now you know all about Palm Springs weather forecasting and how it is always
wrong.

So if you want a nude vacation in the sunniest city in America, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!

Now that those days have come and gone I filled in that when weather.com predicted Thunderstorms all week. They were 100% WRONG as it was sunny all week.

Why nudist hotels and resorts are the best for vacations

Palm Springs is a pretty famous place. It is also becoming quite a hip town. Palm Springs caters to middle class and the very wealthy travelers. For instance, the Ritz Carlton in town is under going a $500 million renovation and expansion. Yes, that is right, they are spending a half a billion dollars. Hard Rock Hotels has announced they are coming to Palm Springs. And the Mondrian Hotel has announce they are expanding to Palm Springs. Mondrian is famous for its "Sky Bar" that Cindy Crawford and her husband Randy Gerber own.

2 years ago, Palm Springs got a Parker Meridien hotel that appeals to the so called spoiled "elite". Now it will even have its own TV show. It will be appearing on the Bravo TV channel. It is called "Welcome to the Parker." It is about guests and workers at the Parker Meridien Palm Springs.

The LA Times did a story on it. Here is a quote:

"Are the guests at the Parker as snobby and rude as one might expect?

Why Go: Bravo’s “Welcome to the Parker” show is bound to be a fun show worthy of space on your DVR. We wouldn’t be surprised if after the series gets underway that a new L.A. bar game sprouts up – “When I was at the Parker…” to be finished with a story of the most obnoxious (or famous) hotel guest you saw in Palm Springs.

Why Not: The video on Bravo makes it seem like only high-maintenance travelers visit the Parker and who wants to rub elbows with them at the pool?" [I agree, they can keep them.]

For the full article click here

As guests know, Mary Clare and I were restaurant critics in Chicago for 10 years. We ate at the Parker restaurant once (called Mister Parkers) and were very unimpressed. Very overpriced, so-so food and snobby service. The decore is a '60's psychedelic throwback. As you can guess we have never recommended it and the few guets who have gone their own there own were also very unimpressed.

It seems that whenever we have stayed at an "upscale" hotel there is such a snobby element of people trying to impress everyone else with how "important" they are. There is coldness, sterility, and no fun at these type of hotels. Basically, they are just for snobby heads in beds.

This is the opposite of real nudist hotels and nudist resorts. Snobs would never go to one as they would feel that they are too superior. They think that their "bare skin" is too special to go nude or topless sunbathing around the hoi polloi. That is why snobs never fit in at nudist resorts.

It is great vacationing at real nudist resorts and hotels as you meet people of all walks from middle class to extremely wealthy. Yet, they are all very happy with themselves and their significant others. It is the most fun, because the people who go to nudist resorts are just so happy and great.

So you can keep your Parker Meridiens. Nudist hotels and resorts are the most fun, relaxing ways to vacation.

P.S., we also have a higher occupancy rate than the Parker. I guess that says something about the nice people who like to get all over suntans.

And if you are looking for a fun vacation, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!

Nude Cruise Dinner reported in New York by the New York Times

Today the New York Times reported on a nude dinner cruise held in their city. All in all, the article was pretty positive.

There was one stupid quote from a participant in the article. He is quoted as saying:
“The thrill for me is being naked in a public place,” said David Rheingold, an ample 35-year-old who lives in Downtown Manhattan.

I assume he meant that it is fun being socially nude with others instead of being a home nudist. The way the quote sounds though, it makes him sound like a exhibitionist.

People always have to be on their guard whenever they talk to the press. They can say something very innocent, but it is taken and written the wrong meaning.

And of course, you can say something and the reporter twists it to fit what they want to print, even if it is not correct.

As an example, years ago there were a few forest fires about 75 miles away from Palm Springs. The media was saying ALL of Southern California was on fire which wasn't true.

At that time I was president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. I got a phone call from USA Today newspaper asking me to comment on how the fires were hurting tourism in Palm Springs. I told the reporter, "It is great that you are calling. You can set the record straight. The fires are not even near Palm Springs. We have no smoke. The Southern California Lung Association is telling other Southern Californians to go to Palm Springs if they are affected by the fires as we have such high quality air. However, with the media telling everyone in the USA that all of Southern California is on fire, it is hurting tourism and small businesses in town. Could you please inform people that Palm Springs is not affected by the smoke or fires."

The next day the USA Today paper prints on their front page something like this: according to Tom Mulhall president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, tourism is plummetting in Palm Springs due to the fires.

Sometimes you can't win with the media.

MSN picks a Topless Beach as one of the Top 10 US Beaches

Today at MSN's homepage msn.com they had the MSN spotlight. Today's spotlight was the "Top 10 U.S. Beaches."

They picked South Beach in Miami as one of the top beaches in the US. What is cool is South Beach, also called SoBe is a topless beach. We have been there twice and a lot of the women go topless sunbathing at that beach.

We have been there and it is a cool beach so we agree with MSN's assessment. You get people of all ages at that beach.

Too bad they didn't pick Haulover Beach which is further north in Miami and probably the most famous nude beach in America.

An online poll about public nudity

I would like to thank Jeff one of the readers of this blog for sending me the link to this poll. The purpose of the "poll is meant to determine the attitude of the general public regarding private and public nudity."

Here is the link to the poll. You can still answer questions there: click here for the poll

Over 1600 people have taken the poll so far. You are more than welcome to take it.

56% of the people taking the poll do not consider themselves nudists, yet 91% feel that "certain defined areas withing National and State parks, beaches, local parks and recreation areas should be clothing optional." This is pretty amazing the support for topless and nude beaches and parks.

50% of respondants definately would try a nude beach and 37% said possibly they would try it.

Although the press has been saying that young people don't go to nudist resorts (which we know is not true) 45% of people answering this survey are age 35 or younger.

There is even a questions as to whether you would join your neighbors for a naked BBQ.

Of course being an internet poll this is very unscientic, but it still gives you a feel for how the general public feels about being nude with others.

A book includes San Diego's famous Black's Beach

I just learned of a book called "Black's Beach Shuffle" by Corey Lynn Fayman. It is his first book. It is set in Southern California and has scenes set at Black's Beach.

Black's Beach is one of California's most famous nude beaches. It has allowed topless and nude sunbathing since the 1970's. It is still popular on weekends in the summer time.

We even have guests who fly here, spend the weekend at Black's Beach when it is busy and the rest of the week vacationing at our resort in Palm Springs.

Here is some information from Amazon.com about the book.

"Black's Beach Shuffle updates the classic Southern California gumshoe world of Raymond Chandler and Ross McDonald with contemporary technology riffs, new millennium anxieties and sun-blotted humor. It pumps out a page-turning mix of plot twists, colorful characters and laugh-out-loud humor as Rolly's investigation ricochets him from the high-tech industrial parks of Torrey Pines Mesa to downtown blues clubs, from street taco shops to the penthouse of the La Jolla Hyatt, from the hallowed halls of academia to the sands of Black's Beach, San Diego's official clothing-optional playground."

Lindsay Lohan walks around naked, does this make her a nudist?

Lately, it appears that local governments are getting confused about nudity and nudism. In both Vermont and Huntington Beach, CA ordinances were passed that were very nudist unfriendly.

Just because someone is naked, it does not make them a nudist. Take for instance Lindsay Lohan. It has been disclosed that when she was recently in rehab, she walked around nude as she thought it was funny to shock patients and staff.

Lindsay Lohan said: "I drove them all mad wandering around completely naked. They kept telling me to quit, but it was so much fun to tease all those boys. I just couldn’t stop it!'” the source said.

Lindsay in that case was just naked. She is not a nudist as real nudists would never be nude to make other people feel uncomfortable or to sexually tease them. Nude doesn't have to be rude or lewd.

Hopefully local governments will some day learn there is a difference between acting up while nude like in the case of Lindsay and being a nudist.

Plus, I bet if citizens had more options to go nude or topless sunbathing at beaches, there would be a lot less exhibitionism.

Don't hide your enjoyment of nude recreation

In my opinion, one of the best bloggers on nudism is http://nudiarist.blogspot.com

If you want good information about nude recreation, nudism, what it means to be a nudist, etc. his is the blog to go to.

Lots of people like my blog too. However, I write from the point of view of owning a nudist resort.

On Wednesday, nudiarist wrote one fantastic post about what the Vermont and Huntington Beach legal decisions mean for nude recreation.

I am repeating it here. I hope Nudiarist does not mind my repeating it in whole. But his point is so good, I feel as many people as possible should read it.

So don't hide your love of nude recreation and going to nudist resorts and nude beaches. One of the saddest things we always here is most guests are too "afraid" to tell anyone they like being nude. It is a sad way to go through life. It also means it is much easier for governments to do away with our freedoms for enjoying being nude.

As nudiarst says "It's time to really get together - all you closet nudists out there need to join a local club and start making a difference. Make your numbers known and stand together. We are only given one body in this life, and we must not let anyone tell us that we should be ashamed in any way of what we have been given."

This should be a slogan for the 2 nudist organizations AANR and TNS.

Here it is:

What It All Means for Nudists
The decisions this week in California and Vermont to define and criminalize public nudity are devastatingly bad news for nudists and naturists.

It's not because any nudist or naturist would want to walk down Main Street in Huntington Beach or Brattleboro. In fact, it's quite the opposite. People who live in the nude lifestyle are not looking for confrontations, they prefer to avoid them.

Brattleboro was content with having no nudity ordinance until some teenagers decided to hang around a downtown parking lot in the buff. No harm was done, and the town decided to let the issue pass with the advent of the colder weather. But this spring a man was arrested for lewd behavior, and then an elderly man from Arizona decided to walk around in the nude at a public event.

These examples are NOT indicative of nudist behavior. I would go so far as to say that the behavior of the man from Arizona was downright creepy. The Selectboard appeared to have little choice but to start placing some restrictions on where public nudity will and will not be tolerated.

Ultimately, from a legal point of view, the Brattleboro decision, if made permanent, will have no immediate effect on anyone practicing the nudist lifestyle, because it recognizes the right of people to be nude at the local swimming hole, or in their own yards, just not in certain areas of the city itself. The Huntington Beach decision is far more serious because it is directed specifically at naturists - not at strip clubs or exhibitionists. The Huntington Beach law is an overreaction to one local man who was often seen nude on his own property, and does not even live there anymore.

But the real damage done to nudists with all this publicity is exactly that - bad public relations. The people who forced these issues to the table are not nudists. They might be predators, they might just be jerks, and they might be exhibitionists, but they are not naturists or nudists.

All of the articles that I have read about these incidents specifically mention nudism or naturism as being at the core of the matters, and that is a fallacy. While the Naturist Action Committee reacted to the Huntington Beach situation in what it perceived to be an appropriate and necessary manner, it perhaps unwittingly did more harm than good by sustaining an all-too-public loss defending the actions of a man who really was not a naturist. Yes, it was important to try and set the record straight by trying to explain to the City Council and the Chief of Police that targeting naturists was the wrong approach to the problem, but in the end the Council voted 7-0 to let the ordinance go forward. Big loss for naturists all around.

It's been a terrible year so far for nudism, and the Associated Press has run with a couple of stories that have been nothing but negative. The fiasco with the Solair College Day only perpetuated the image that nudism was only for the old and wrinkly, and columnists all over the world seemed to have an opinion on that issue. After all, it was amusing, wasn't it?

On the other hand, it's been a banner year for celebrity nudity. Just about everyone has seen Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and now Lindsay Lohan naked or semi-naked. Nick Lachey was seen having sex in a hot tub and the photos were all over the Internet. I don't see anyone trying to pass any laws to reel in these "nudists".

Nudism needs some good PR. Some damn good PR. It needs a spokesperson with some real credibility to come forward and embrace the lifestyle. The nudism industry has been so preoccupied with the aging issue that it has virtually missed the most important issue of all, that the battle for hearts and minds is rapidly being lost, that the Christianists are winning all the little battles to criminalize the human body. Swimming holes are disappearing, nude beaches are few and far between, traditional nudist "camps" are closing and being sold for other uses, regulations defining nudity targeting strip clubs are affecting even non-sexual nudity, and at the same time the sexualization of the human body in advertising, entertainment and pornography is growing by leaps and bounds.

In America, an elderly man who walks naked down the street is a criminal, but a celebrity who flashes her shaved genital area to photographers makes the cover of People magazine.

In America, women who bare their breasts on the beach are breaking the law, but women who bare all and have graphic sex on camera are rich and famous.

In America, a man who bares his genitals to go skinny dipping can be arrested for indecent exposure, but a man who uses his genitals to degrade women in pornographic films is a media darling.

We're losing this battle, my friends. The answer will come only with solidarity and organization, with a lot of hard work and smart thinking. It's time to really get together - all you closet nudists out there need to join a local club and start making a difference. Make your numbers known and stand together. We are only given one body in this life, and we must not let anyone tell us that we should be ashamed in any way of what we have been given."

Send a Hello to a Marine

One of our guests has a son serving in Iraq. He sent me this e-mail which is a request from a Marine Colonel. No matter what you think of Bush, whether you like him or think he is doing a terrible job and should be impeached, the soldiers in Iraq do need our support and to feel in touch with home.

So drop them a line and pass on this post.

US Marine Colonel Simcock, the commander of USMC Regimental Combat Team 6 in Iraq, is asking for 6,000 positive emails to his Marines. That's one email for each Marine in his RCT command. COL Simcock is concerned about the effect of the negative barrage that those Marines are getting through the electronic media. This is a legitimate request. It's not one of the "little Johnny wants to break the world's record in Christmas cards" situations. It takes only 30 seconds of your time. Here's the address:

mail to: RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil

If you're reading this email, then you can probably click on the address, type a few words, and then hit "send" to be all done. It doesn't have to be the Gettysburg Address. Something as simple as "Hello, Marine. We thank you for what you're doing. We are very proud of the men and women such as yourselves putting your lives on the line for America. Best wishes & get home safe and soon." is more than sufficient.

Cypress Cove Nudist Resort holds its Annual Chamber of Commerce mixer

Owning a nudist resort is a very unique business. You can be very easily legislated out of business. The best nudist resorts are involved with the local business communities and local politics.

I am a past President of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. We had a mixer at our resort about 9 years ago. We hold the record as the best attended summer mixer ever in Palm Springs history. In Palm Springs, a local business can only have a mixer once because we are a large chamber of commerce with over 1000 members. We have this rule, so as many businesses as possible can have a mixer.

In Kissimmee, FL (located by Orlando, FL) where Cypress Cove Nudist Resort is located, they have an annual Chamber mixer at their resort. Just like us, Cypress Cove is very well respected in their community.

I think most nudists in the US would agree that Cypress Cove is the best of the nudist resorts in Florida. It is also the only year round nudist vacation resort in Florida. And us, The Terra Cotta Inn in Palm Springs is the best of the nudist resorts in the Western US. We are also the only nudist resort that caters to vacationers out west.

Here is the story in the local paper about Cypress Coves mixer:

POINCIANA - The Kissimmee-Osceola County Chamber of Commerce made its annual foray to the Cypress Cove Nudist Resort and Spa last week for socializing and for crab races - and to meet the man who is upgrading the resort's restaurant.

For several years now Cypress Cove, the 300-acre family-oriented resort along Lake Brown on the edge of Poinciana, has hosted a business-after-hours event for the chamber and it is always well attended. The July 11 evening affair this year was no different when more than 100 chamber members gathered in the Lakeside Restaurant, Cypress Cove's main dining facility.

This year there was something new, however.

"We have a new restaurant manager," resort general manager Ivan Thomsen noted...

Public Nudity voted down in Brattleboro, VT

Walking around in the nude is one of the things that everybody in the world is capable of doing. Just because you walk in the nude does not mean you are a nudist.

Now most people do not walk nude in their downtown areas of their hometowns.

However, last year in Brattleboro, VT a number of bored teenagers decided to walk around nude in their downtown because their was no ordinance in town against walking around naked. This got international attention.

Now some tourists have even gone to this town to walk around naked downtown. This has upset enough citizens that they asked their city council to pass a law outlawing public nudity, and yesterday, they passed that law.

Obviously owning a nudist resort I am all for promoting nudity. However, it has to be responsible. I don't go walking around downtown Palm Springs naked. And what these people were doing is irresponsible.

These people who were walking around nude in Brattleboro make nudists seem to be a bunch of weirdos instead of normal people that nudists really are.

It is a shame how a few people can generate such a great amount of bad publicity. Now the chances of Brattleboro ever allowing a city park for nude sunbathing are nil.

Nude Recreation Week is over

Well another year has come and gone and Nude Recreation Week is now officially over.

We got some phone calls from first timers because of nude recreation week. Also the week received some media coverage.

One of the pieces of advice we have for you is you don't have to wait until nude recreation week to live part of your lives in the nude.

You can be nude at home more often. If you have kids, wait until they go to bed to be naked.

If you have a private back yard, garden or sunbathe nude.

If you have a pool or jacuzzi use it nude.

If you are a woman and nervous, go topless at first.

The more time you spend nude, the happier you will be and the more comfortable you will be with yourself and your significant other. And then you will be ready to vacation at nudist resorts which are the best vacations ever.

For your best vacation ever, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!

A reply to a Dever Post article making fun of nudists and nude sunbathing

The Denver Post carried a column last week. teh writer was making fun of nudists. He took the typical teenage point of view that all woman should be like the airbrushed Playboy models and that any woman who was not "perfect" should be covered up.

Well today was a great responsexse in the paper to his column by a wman who says she is not a nudist. Here it is:

"Nudity and sexuality
Re: "Those in the buff often aren't," July 11 David Harsanyi column.

Although not a nudist myself, I was shocked and offended by this obtuse and myopic editorial.

Harsanyi laments the "unfortunate ... young souls ... exposed to the horrors of the hairy, cellulite-ridden naked adult body." Is he attempting to imply that only perfect bodies are acceptable, and anything less should be considered shameful? This notion is far more damaging to children than seeing other humans' nudity. In a culture where hatred of one's body is commonplace, it would be healthier if we taught our youths that the body is nothing to be ashamed of, regardless of its attractiveness.

As for the "sex thing," is it really wise to teach our children that nudity and sexuality are mutually exclusive? Of course not! America's inability to view the human body in a non-sexual manner is benighted and objectifying, telling our youth that the nude body is not worthwhile alone, instead implying that nudity is only reasonable in conjunction with a sexual admirer or partner.

Only once we let go of parochial ideas of embarrassment toward our bodies will society be able to cease objectifying men and women, instead viewing the body as more than a sexual device. If we are able to step outside of our fears of social taboo, even for a moment, we can learn a great deal from the nudists.

Lauren Golder, Conifer "

It is sad that the original reporter was so closed minded (or is that clothes minded) towards public nudity. The joy of vactioning at a nudist resort or nude or topless beach is immense.

So throw away your bathing suits and enjoy life as it was meant to be in your birthday suit.

The nudist club story that just won't die

I just don't understand the mentality of some nudist club and park members when they talk to the news media. They obviously must sound very desperate as that is how they are being portrayed.

This story is from ABC-TV in Kirksville, MO. Now I had never heard of Kirksville. Turns out it is a town of 16,988 people and is 130 miles north of Kansas City, MO.

It seems all of America wants to broadcast how some nudist clubs and parks are trying to promote their resorts to younger members.

I can't wait until nudist club owners start catching on and saying to the media just like vacationing at a Marriott, nudist vacationers are ALL ages.

"Nudist club desperately seeking younger members

WORLEY, Idaho (AP) - Nudists are looking for more young bodies. The Sun Meadow nudist resort in Worley, Idaho, has a deal for people under 35. The usual membership costs 300 dollars per year, but the younger set gets a 20-percent, "non-senior" discount. About 200 naked people are vacationing at Sun Meadow during this holiday week, as part of the 61st annual convention of northwest nudists. They're enjoying such activities as volleyball, music and even tamale making in the buff."

Now's your chance to buy a house in Palm Springs, CA

Palm Springs, California is the best city to live in. With our fantastic weather, we are the fastest growing part of California. We love living here and couldn't imagine living anywhere else. There is no other city in America where you can be nude or topless outdoors every day of the week.

If you have always wanted to move to Palm Springs,CA or buy a second home, now is your chance. Cher has listed her house in Palm Springs for sale.

The four-bedroom home measures 4,000 square feet has a pool, a spa and four bedrooms. I hope her house is set up for nude or topless sunbathing. It would be sad if you couldn't be naked there.

Of course you could come everyday to The Terra Cotta Inn for day use and to nude sunbathe if Cher's house isn't nudist friendly.

Real nudist resorts are a bargain compared to regular hotels with clothing optional areas

A hotel just opened in Napa county, California. They are basically a textile hotel with a nude sunbathing deck. Midweek, they are having a special "bargain package" only $$850 for 2 nights. Now this does include a dinner.

$425/night for a clothing optional nude sunbathing deck? And the decor is described as "Napa Barn meets San Francisco loft." I guest textile chains feel people will really overpay just for the fun of nude sunbathing. This must be the mainstreaming of nudist resorts.

Now compare that hotel to our resort, The Terra Cotta Inn, where we do a speical on Monday thru Thurs of stay 1 night, the 2nd is half priced. So both nights at our resort are $208.50 compared to $850. We are such a bargain. This is also one of the reasons we have had the highest occupancy rate of all hotels in palm Springs for about the last 10 yers in the summer.

Here are the details:

"The 89-room Solage Calistoga from Auberge Resorts opened yesterday in the Napa Valley town of Calistoga... The rooms are decorated in a style described as “Napa barn meets San Francisco loft,” with open floor plans, stone showers and high tech amenities like complimentary wi-fi, iPod hookups and flat-screen televisions. Other perks include:

- Solbar restaurant, led by Executive Chef Brandon Sharp

- 130-foot swimming pool with private cabanas

- Spa offering Kate Somerville signature skin treatments

- The mud bar, where guests can paint themselves with the messy stuff

- 25 acres for guests to explore

- A clothing-optional sun-tanning area"

Emma Watson on nudity
13 July 2007
Emma Watson admires Daniel Radcliffe for doing a nude scene and plans to do the same.

The young actress is secretly planning to change her perfect image, just as her Harry Potter co-star is doing.

The 17 year-old British star says that she is proud of Radcliffe, who has a nude scene in the London play Equus. She said, "I'd like to think I would (do that). Not that I want to get naked, but I hope that something like that will come along. That's the plan anyway."

Restrictive anti nudist law requested for Huntington Beach, CA

The town of Huntington Beach, CA is requested to create a restrictive anti nudist and naturist law by their police Chief. An alert was put out by the Naturist Action Committee that helps protect the rights of naturists all over America.

Here is the Alert:

Naturist Action Alert - Huntington Beach, California

DATE: July 13, 2007
SUBJECT: Huntington Beach, California
TO: All Naturists

Dear Naturist,

This is an Action Alert from the Naturist Action Committee concerning an important situation in the state of California.

The police chief of the City of Huntington Beach has requested that the City Council adopt a new ordinance targeting "naturists," a term the Chief has used specifically in asking for new power to cite and arrest.

WHAT'S THE SPECIFIC THREAT?

Under existing California law, section 314.1 of the State Penal Code is the portion of general state law used to charge indecent exposure. California courts have said that absent any lewd content, benign nudity like skinny-dipping is not prohibited under 314.1.

The proposed new Huntington Beach ordinance, if adopted, would go beyond existing law, and would criminalize mere nudity, even in the absence of lewd content. The ordinance is made necessary, Huntington Beach Police Chief Kenneth Small has told the City Council, because of "incidents involving a 'naturist' living in the downtown area."

This ordinance is not aimed at strip clubs or sex predators. As Chief Small has pointed out, it's aimed specifically and directly at naturists.

BRIEF HISTORY AND DISCUSSION

Former Huntington beach resident Michael Ferreira is the individual at whom Chief Small's ire is directed. Ferreira, who has told law enforcement officials that he considers himself a naturist, was arrested several months ago for being nude at his residence in Huntington Beach, where he was sometimes visible to others. Ferreira had a previous California arrest for indecent exposure from more than a decade ago. Neither the previous incident nor the more recent one involved lewd behavior, but both were charged under PC 314.1.

The 1995 arrest was from a time in which the offense did not automatically require sex offender registration, and Ferreira simply pled guilty in 1996, as many others did during that time. However, upon the more recent arrest, authorities improperly charged Ferreira with having failed to register as a sex offender. That charge was thrown out, and the underlying 1996 conviction was vacated. Successfully representing Ferreira in the legal matter was California attorney Allen Baylis, who is a board member of the Naturist Action Committee.

Since Huntington Beach Police Chief Small has declared publicly that "the subject's behavior did not include an overt element of sexual gratification" in the recent incident, it seems likely that the more recent charge will be dropped, as well.

However, the matter has left Chief Small angry at Mike Ferreira and antagonistic toward naturists. Not content to do the job of enforcing laws as they are written, Chief Small now wishes to see the creation of new laws that more closely reflect his idea of what he'd like to enforce.

Meanwhile, Michael Ferreira no longer lives in Huntington Beach.

WHAT IS NAC DOING?

The Naturist Action Committee has let the Huntington Beach City Attorney, Mayor and City Council know that naturists are quite unhappy at being targeted for lawmaking of this sort and are vigorous opposed to the proposed new ordinance.

NAC board member Allen Baylis will attend the Monday evening City Council meeting, speaking on behalf of NAC and naturists.

WHAT IS NAC ASKING YOU TO DO?

The Naturist Action Committee is asking you to do TWO things:

1) Write immediately to the mayor and city council members of Huntington Beach, expressing your opposition to the proposed ordinance.

2) If you live in the vicinity of Huntington Beach, attend the upcoming meeting of the City Council on July 16, at which the proposed anti-naturist ordinance will be introduced.

IMPORTANT: The hearing is scheduled for JULY 16, so it's necessary for you to take action quickly.

WHO SHOULD WRITE

NAC is asking ALL NATURISTS to write, regardless of your residence. Huntington Beach bills itself as "Surf City," and it considers itself to be an attractive destination for tourists from across North America, and beyond. Now, the City's police chief is singling out naturists, demanding that the City Council make them the specific target of a new law that goes beyond state law. This is a matter that affects nonresident naturists who might visit Huntington Beach, just as much as it affects those who live there.

WHOM TO CONTACT

In this instance, contacts by e-mail or FAX will be most effective. Please write to the Mayor and the City Council members.

To send an email to ALL SEVEN City Council members at once, please email: city.council@ surfcity- hb.org

Or you may contact each City Council member individually:

Mayor Gil Coerper GCoerper@surfcity- hb.org
Mayor Pro Tem Debbie Cook hbdac@hotmail. com
Council Member Keith Bohr kbohr@surfcity- hb.org
Council Member Joe Carchio jcarchio@surfcity- hb.org
Council Member Cathy Green cgreen@surfcity- hb.org
Council Member Don Hansen dhansen@surfcity- hb.org
Council Member Jill Hardy jhardy@surfcity- hb.org

To send a FAX to ALL SEVEN City Council members at once, use this FAX number:
(714) 536-5233.

Key points to remember when writing:

1. Identify yourself. Anonymous correspondence is generally disregarded. If you are a resident of California, or especially of Huntington Beach, please say so prominently.

2. Be brief and polite.

3. Say clearly and specifically that you OPPOSE proposed Ordinance Number 3773.

4. Say clearly and specifically that you OPPOSE the attempt to target naturists in an effort to go well beyond state law.

WHAT ELSE TO SAY?

Here are some additional points to consider:

1. The California legislature and California courts have given careful consideration to the existing law, fine tuning and interpreting it over a period of many years.

2. Laws presently exist to restrict lewd behavior and truly disorderly conduct.

3. The proposed ordinance serves to erode further the already-endangered concept of personal freedoms. Where does this stop?

4. It is risky business and bad governance to create an ordinance that is the result of having targeted an individual or a named group, like naturists. The proposed ordinance would make bad law for the City of Huntington Beach.

5. The criminalization of non-violent, non-lewd, non-threatening behavior seems to be tied to a person's individual appearance, through proposed government insistence that elements of that appearance be masked. Extent of proposed enforcement is certainly tied to a person's gender, with women having been singled out for even greater criminalization, because of their breasts.

6. The proposed ordinance is flawed and unnecessary.

VERY IMPORTANT: ATTEND THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING:

Date: Monday, July 16, 2007
Time: 6 PM PDT
Location: City Council Chambers
2000 Main Street
Huntington Beach, CA 92648

Please plan to meet on the lower level outside the council chambers no later than 5:30 PM for a briefing by NAC personnel.

Even if you do not intend to speak at the City Council meeting, your presence is important as support for those who will be speaking on behalf of naturists.

IF YOU SPEAK AT THE MEETING The public comment period is near the beginning of the meeting, which starts at 6 o'clock PM. Each speaker must fill out a pink form before the meeting begins. Your speaking time will be limited to 3 minutes.

There will likely NOT be an opportunity for the public to speak on the proposed anti-naturist ordinance at the time that ordinance is actually introduced, which will be later in the City Council meeting.

It's perfectly natural that you should be outraged at attempts to target naturists for criminalization that goes beyond the state law! Nevertheless, if you speak at the meeting, you must avoid making personal attacks. If you like, you may make use of the points offered above for those who will be writing.

Asheville, NC Dept of Tourism promotes Skinny Dipping

Promoting nudism like we do is an interesting business. You have many governments that want to prohibit nude recreation and nude or topless sunbathing, but then you get a breathe of fresh air like from Asheville, NC where they have an official Dept of Tourism video showing skinny dipping. Go figure. The picture above is from the dept of Tourisms web site.

It is like here in Palm Springs. I was elected president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce a number of years ago. It was pretty cool that people were open minded enough to elect me. The Palm Springs Department of Tourism promotes our nudist resort. They know quality resorts like ours brings tourist money to town. We have the 2nd highest occupancy rate of all hotels in town.

Check out this link click here for the Asheville site.

Go to the "swimming hole" video on the site to see it.

It is nice to see some cities besides Palm Springs and Pasco county, FL are progressive. Who knows, next we may get Miami promoting nude and topless beaches.

And if you want a fun, skinny dipping vacation, give us The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resoert and spa a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com Hope to see you in sunny Palm Springs!

Funny Travel story about lost luggage

About 80% of our guests fly to our resort. Although most guests receive their luggage when they land, sometimes suitcases take "mysterious" vacations of their own. It has happed to us once and it happens from time to time to guests.

One of our guests had their bag go "missing" by American Airlines for 5 days last week. I just got this funny story from a believe it or not travel site.

Here it is and have a good laugh:

"I couldn't find my luggage at the airport baggage area, so I went to
the lost luggage office and told the woman there that my bags never
showed up. She smiled and told me not to worry because she was a trained
professional and I was in good hands. "Now," she asked me, has your
plane arrived yet?'"

Ask Amy gives advice on naturism - Nixes naked gardening

In today's Ask Amy column, she tries to give advice to a naturist to help him get his wife to try naturism. Here is the letter:

"Naturist should let wife choose
By Amy Dickinson
TRIBUNE MEDIA SERVICES
07/12/2007

Dear Amy: My wife and I have been married for about a year.
We are both 34. We live on 5 acres. Woods surround us on three sides and we have a 6-foot fence. Our nearest neighbors live half a mile away.

My wife knew I was a naturist before we married. She dislikes seeing me in the nude all of the time. I do my share of the housework and all of the yard work in the nude.

When we have people over, I wear clothing.

We went to a clothing-optional resort one time. I was nude the whole time, and she wore shorts and a shirt the whole time we were there. She refuses to go again.

What can I do to change my wife's mind about being a naturist?

ANSWER:

You knew that your wife was a fully clothed non-naturist when you married her, so why does she have to change to suit you? Why don't you change?

I understand that as a naturist you are attached to your clothing-optional way of life, but if there's any activity that I think of as being compatible with wearing clothing, preferably many layers of it, it would be yardwork.

Good heavens, man, watch that hedge trimmer!

The website for the Naturist Society (www.naturistsociety.com) offers this very practical and sensitive advice for you: "Typically, women are more wary than men of clothing-optional venues. But everyone, male and female, has 'body issues.' For some, the idea of being seen nude — and seeing others nude — is filled with psychological tension. A spouse, friend or partner can help reduce the tension, but only if caution and sensitivity are exercised. ... There is a line between encouragement and coercion. Don't cross it if you want to introduce someone to naturism.'"

I have a couple of comments.

First Ask Amy is wrong. Naked gardening is a great activity to enjoy in the outdoors in the nude. Especially weeding or planting. Here you can see a picture of Mary Clare naked gardening at our house.

Now when power tools are involved, safety comes first and so do protective clothes, eye wear, hearing protectors, etc.

Next, there is something more going on here than her not wanting to go to a nudist resort. He writes "she dislikes seeing me in the nude all the time." In a recent survey in this March in England, 90% of women agreed it was vital that a couple felt comfortable naked together. It sounds to me that she is very insecure with herself.

My advice would have been "she sounds very insecure with her body. Take small steps to make her feel more comfortable. Let her try topless sunbathing in the back yard. Do housework in the nude together. Wash dishes in the nude or topless together. Do not make these activities sexual.

Constantly reassure her that she is a beautiful and wonderful person. It sounds like her self esteem has been damaged and needs to be lovingly rebuilt. Yoo are in the perfect position to do so.

I do agree with Amy, never coerce a woman into being nude. It will backfire. That is why we are very patient with our first timers. And it is also why we are so successful.

Finally, where you go for your next nude experience is very important. It must be fun, no pressure, and upscale. Also clothing optional, so she can ease into it. My suggestion obviously is our resort or the Grand Lido Braco in Jamaica. Now the disadvantage of Grand Lido Braco is you can be there a whole week and never see a nude or topless person. Whereas at our resort, everyone is nude including us the owners, so odds are she will eventually feel comfortable going topless or nude.

Paradise Lakes Nudist Resort in Florida is being sold!

I normally don't like to repeat what other nudist bloggers are posting. I try to come up with original posts myself.

However, when there is news out there, it is best to share it and analyze it.

Over at usanudist.com, there is a story that Joe Lettelleir selling his share of Paradise Lakes nudist resort located in Tampa Florida. click here for full story

The story originally comes from Marcia Stone, Pasco Naturally Editor

Pasco County Florida, located just north of Tampa, FL is the most competitive nudist resorts area of the country. These parks and resorts are located there: Caliente Resort & Spa, The Oasis, Lake Como Family Nudist Resort, Gulf Coast Nudist Resort and The Island Group.

And not only is it the most competive nudist area in the U.S., but it is also the rainiest. The national weather service just 2 months ago came out with a report showing rainfall in the US. Year round, Florida has more rain than any other state in America.

People forget Florida was never called the sunshine State until the 1970's when Disney moved there. The marketing gurus needed to come up with a ploy to trick people to vacation in the rainiest state in America if companies were going to make major investments there.

So they came up with, if we call Florida the sunshine state, people are gullible and will believe our advertising. And thus every year, millions of people trek to Florida for their hard earned vacation time and go home complaining that it rained on their vacation.

And in the summer Tampa, Orlando, and Miami are in the top 10 rainiest cities in America. Tampa averages just over 100 thunderstorms a year, more than any other city in the world.

So if you own a nudist resort in Pasco county, not only do you have to deal with competition, but you have to deal with the weather as everyone knows nude vacationers love the sunshine not rain.

Mary Clare was born in Tampa, FL, that is why our resort is in Palm Springs, CA not Tampa.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Paradise Lakes now that it has sold.

Happy Nude Recreation Week - Go Topless!

Normally women are the most nervous about nude sunbathing. Take baby steps. Just go topless sunbathing first. For instance more women in Europe topless sunbathe than nude sunbathe.

We even let woman start our topless sunbathing at The Terra Cotta Inn. We find that about 95% of the woman that start topless sunbathing are nude by the end of the day and continue to go nude sunbathing the rest of their vacation. Whereas if we insisted that they go nude as soon as they got to the resort, they never would have come.

32nd Anniversary of Nude Recreation Week Celebrated at Nudist and Clothing Optional Resorts

Shortly after Americans finished observing our nation's independence on July 4th, another major holiday period needs to be celebrated.

It is the 32nd Anniversary of Nude Recreation Week, held from July 9-15th, 2007. The American Association of Nude Recreation (AANR) is a major sponsor of this holiday.

Nude Recreation Week informs first timers all about the fun they are missing out on by not vacationing at topless or nude resorts and beaches. Once a year, people are reminded that you can escape the hum drum of boring chain hotel vacations. There are many fascinating and fun nude travel destinations around the world. Pack light and say goodbye to tan lines forever.

Nude sunbathing, swimming, and skinny dipping has had a long history in America. Presidents John Quincy Adams and Teddy Roosevelt used to go nude swimming in the Potomac river. And Benjamin Franklin greatly enjoyed his daily outdoor "air baths" while wearing just his birthday suit.

Nude Recreation Week lets everyone know that by vacationing at nudist and clothing optional resorts, you can finally find a fun way to shed all of life's daily stresses along with your clothes.

Nude recreation is the fastest growing trend in the travel and leisure industries. In a recent national survey conducted by Yesawich, Pepperdine, Brown, & Russell/Yankelovich Partners, 12% of adults responded to the survey that they consider a resort that offered a nude recreation experience extremely desirable. Compared to only 10% of adults saying the same about a golf vacation, and only 6% saying the same about a tennis vacation, it is easy to see that vacationing at nudist resorts is definitely on the rise in popularity.

Nude Recreation Week teaches people that it is about time they try a new and fun vacation experience. Give a nudist resort or clothing optional resort a call for more information. Celebrate Nude Recreation Week or any week for that matter in your birthday suit. You will be glad that you did.

And to celebrate in sunny Palm Springs, CA give us, The Terra Cotta Inn a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com

Topless Sunbathing out at Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas

Looks like some bathing suit tops have to go back on in Las Vegas.

A few years ago, some Las Vegas, Nevada hotels thought that they had created profit centers by opening some smaller swimming pools allowing woman to go topless sunbathing. Depending on the hotel, they charged men from $30-50 for the day. Women were either normally free or charged maybe $10 or $20.

As you can guess in Las Vegas, the topless sunbathers (or as they call them in Vegas European style sunbathers) were the entertainment for the men. They had expensive cocktail service, casitas, etc. to make money off of the guys. But guess what? The hordes of women guests going topless never materialized.

We have had guests report to us that most of the topless pools in Las Vegas suck. We have heard that the hotels have to pay some "entertainers" to be topless at the pools so that guys will feel like they are getting their monies worth by seeing some bare skin.

Then we heard on weekends, it is a revolving door of guys going to the pool thinking they could easily score by picking up topless hotties poolside. The reality however is those few women who were brave enough to topless sunbathe were with their husbands or boyfriends. Single women did not go to Las Vegas to topless sunbathe or to be topless poolside with their girlfriends.

Our guests who went to the European style sunbathing pools in Las Vegas feel very comfortable nude sunbathing at our resort and other nudist resorts or nude beaches (if they had been elsewhere). Yet, they all told us they felt very uncomfortable with all the men at the pools in Las Vegas and would not go topless.

I have always known, that just because you offer topless or nude sunbathing, it will not ensure the success of your business. You have to make women feel comfortable. That is the key. If they are uncomfortable they will not stay and for sure will never go back.

I think the Venetian needed to hire a consultant to teach them how to properly run their topless pool.

Here's the story from the Press Enterprise which is a Southern California newspaper covering Riverside county which Palm Springs is a part of.

"Tops Back On

Tao Beach at the Venetian is the first pool to rescind its topless sunbathing allowed stance.

Women must now keep their tops on at this exclusive pool area, though the topless alternative is still offered at several other venues, including pools at Caesars Palace, Wynn and the Mirage.

AANR website info now in Spanish

I like Erich Schuttauf, Executive Director of the American Association for Nude Recreation. He is tries very hard to promote nude recreation to the masses and to protect the rights of nudists. Now I just learned from a AANR e-mailing:

"AANR Now offering Web Site Info in Spanish

This week AANR launched a pilot idea: offering select pages of aanr.com in Spanish. Visitors to the site now will find a link labeled “En Español” in the upper right hand corner. Clicking it takes the visitor to a page with a brief introduction and five key topic sheets that have been translated to cover The Experience, Family Values, From A Woman’s Perspective, Frequently Asked Questions, and more."

The Spanish market is very big. We have been on news shows for Telemundo TV in Southern California and Mexicali. We have been on Univision TV in Southern California, Mexico City, and Santiago, Chile.

We have 2 front desk employees who are bilingual in Spanish. Mary Clare studied Spanish for 3 years. I took French in school.

We have guests from Mexico amnd South America that stay with us. It is a good market to try to penetrate as we have found that middle class and up hispanics are just like Americans where they are interested in nice places to try nude sunbathing.

From wikipedia, there estimate of the number of spanish speaking people inthe world:
1 Mexico 106,255,000
2 Spain 46,000,000
3 Colombia 45,500,000
4 Argentina 41,248,000
5 Venezuela 26,021,000
6 Peru 23,191,000
7 Chile 15,795,000
8 Cuba 11,285,000
9 Ecuador 10,946,000
10 Dominican Republic 8,850,000
11 Guatemala 8,163,000
12 Honduras 7,267,000
13 Bolivia 7,010,000
14 El Salvador 6,859,000
15 Nicaragua 5,503,000
16 Paraguay 4,737,000
17 Costa Rica 4,220,000
18 Puerto Rico 4,017,000
19 Uruguay 3,442,000
20 Panama 3,108,000
21 Equatorial Guinea 447,000

Here is the estimated Spanish speaking residents in the US and Canada:

United States of America 32,200,000
Canada 245,000

So as you can see, Spanish speaking people is a very large market.

Clothing Optional book signing in Vermont

This story has been picked up by the AP wireservice. So it will make news around the world. I am repeating it total since it is a short story.

From the boston.com site:

"Clothing optional" book signing planned by nudity author
July 7, 2007

WAITSFIELD, Vt. --At The Tempest Book Shop, the paperback books won't be the only things without jackets Thursday.

A "clothing optional" book signing event will be held by nudity author Jim C. Cunningham, with customers invited to leave their clothes at the door.

"The reason for this is to 'put our bodies where our mouths are,' living what we preach," Cunningham said. "The public are invited to express their solidarity with our message by also donning their birthday suits upon entering the book store."

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m., which is after the shop's usual closing time. And there are rules: Everyone who plans to strip must bring a towel, and there's no gawking.

"There's already been a few little church ladies who've stopped by, who didn't seem too pleased," said James O'Neill, who was working at the store Saturday. "But I don't expect many people to show up."

Cunningham's 596-page "Nudity & Christianity" book contains no pictures. It's packed with biblical references to nudity and other citations that support his view that nudity is natural, not erotic, and that clothing -- generally -- should be optional."

It sounds like a very good book supporting nude recreation. I will have to learn more about it. At the same time, I wonder how soon before some radical religious zealot decides to burn his book.

Here's a review of the book from Amazon.com:

"Book Description
Jim C. Cunningham considers his latest 588-page work, Nudity and Christianity, to be his "magnum opus." It represents the fruit of thirty years of research, meditation, discussion and many personal experiences. Though much of the material is new, Jim has included the best of his twenty-three years of naturist publishing. Although all of his previous publications (see naturistlife.com) were highly photographic, this latest is 100% textual, in hopes of reaching those who might be intimidated even by tasteful graphics. The insightful ideas of dozens of authors from various denominations are represented here, from Pope John Paul II to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, C.S. Lewis to Kahlil Gibran and even Mark Twain. The purpose of this book is to encourage readers to probe the reasons for wearing clothes. Today, Western convention tends to assume that "nude is lewd," but it was not always that way. For half the Church's history, catechumens--men, women, boys and girls, were routinely baptized together, nude, by full immersion. Today, we recoil at learning this, but how have cultural attitudes toward the body changed to effect this reaction? Jim asks those hard questions about the body and the meaning of true modesty, and exhorts Christians to lead the way in asserting God's definition of the body, rather than Playboy's. Instead of allowing pornographers to define the body for us, and then create a virtue of modesty to fit that false definition, Christians should assert God's definition as found in Scripture and Church Tradition. When we view the body as Jesus did, our definition of modesty becomes radically different from what is conventionally presumed. Two highly detailed indices (Scriptural and Topical) make this an excellent reference book. Readers are exhorted to live what they learn."
