Naked Telecommuting article being picked up at more sites

Monday, Networkworld.com wrote an article about The Terra Cotta Inn and naked telecommuting. Today, at the site it is a Today's Top Stories called Work Naked Clothing Optional resort caters to telecommuters. It is story #4.

I have seen the article picked up by a tech site in the Netherlands. The sister site of networkworkworld.com, Computerworld.com ran the article. Another computer site was jealous and wrote an article at theinquirer.net and I just saw the articled mentioned at wired.com

At wired they commented nicely on the article. Regina Lynn was the writer. She wrote:

Techie Telecommuters Like to Work Nude
Topic: on the road

Giving new dimension to the old standby "what are you wearing?", Computerworld looks into the practice of telecommuting naked. Except during video calls, when people will put on a shirt for the camera, working remotely from clothing-optional spas seems to be something of a trend down here in Southern California...

... we have some guests, mainly in the high-tech field, that purposely freelance so that they can live nude at home. They just dislike wearing clothes, and freelancing out of their homes is the best thing that has ever happened to them.

Makes sense to me. I have no time for a vacation ... but I wouldn't mind working poolside most of the day, and then being right there on site for a glass of wine and a relaxing evening.

Nudity is not sex or even sexual, of course, but it's still one of those things you're not supposed to mention at work, which makes it right up Sex Drive Daily's alley. And I've done my share of nude telecommuting. Conference calls from the bathtub (don't drop the phone!), late-night writing jams from bed, product testing (ahem) by webcam. "

Regina "gets it." Nudity is not about sex, it is about relaxation. She says she has even worked in the nude. Congratulations Regina and Bob Brown of Networkworld.com for origninally writing the article. You guys could easily start to enjoy nude recreation."

Remember Dilbert said:

"On the fourth day of telecommuting, I realized that clothes are totally unnecessary."

Terra Cotta Inn nudist resort featured article in Networkworld.com called Work Naked Clothing optional resort caters to telecommuters

Hi everyone. On Monday, Networkworld.com wrote an article on naked telecommuting where they interviewed me.

Today we are one of the featured "Today's Top Stories." Our article is #4. Pretty cool that nudist resorts are considered so mainstream that a computer site like Network World would write an article about us.

The writer Bob Brown was a really nice person. If you like the article or naked telecommute or like to work in the buff, leave a comment at his site or this blog letting everyone know. You can always post anonymously at networkworld or here if you are worried about work repercussions.

Right wing busy body thinks only liberals enjoy nude recreation

Jeanette, From the site hangrightpolitics.com was complaining about nude bowling that was LEGALLY done in Maine.

What is with some of these right wing extremists. Don't they believe in free enterprise? Don't they believe in freedom of assembly? Or is the Bill of rights something that only they can interpret.

And I bet they would be surprised at how many mainstream republicans enjoy nude recreation. Nude recreation is probably one of the few activities democrats, republicans, libertarians, independents, and non voters equally enjoy.

And if you want to have a fun, clothes free vacation, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing optional resort and spa in sunny Palm Springs, CA a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at sunnyfun.com See you in sunny Palm Springs.

From Jeanette the writer at hangright politics.com

"Good Lord, the liberals have taken over Maine! I’ll bet the ones in charge came from Massachusetts, Connecticut, or New York.

Holy cow! You can’t even have a good night of bowling in that one-light town anymore. I used to bowl there when it first opened. My jaw is dropped to the first floor."

Here clipping from the newspaper article:
OLD TOWN - They wore bowling shoes, but nothing else.

Some nudists who have been renting the Old Town Bowling Center for private parties don’t appear to be breaking any laws or ordinances, but they are having fun candlepin bowling and playing pool.

“Hey, you can’t go skinny-dipping at this time of year,” said Hessa, who organized the events and wanted to be identified only by her first name.

During the three events the Bare Nekkid Mainers have held in the center since September, the one-story building at 185 Center St. was closed, its windows and doors were covered in paper, and signs announced that a private party was in progress.

“I have absolutely no problem with it, and I hope nobody else does,” Charles “Chip” Carson, the center’s owner, said Monday. “They just happen to like having a good time without their clothes on.”

On Jan. 20, a man apparently ignored the signs and entered the center with his 8-year-old son.

“I tried to stop him,” Hessa said Monday. “He walked through two doors that were covered in paper and had signs.”

He apparently saw a nude male playing pool. Disgusted, the visitor went to police.

“One of our officers went over there to check,” Old Town police Capt. Kyle Smart said Monday.

Police found no violations, and after checking with the city attorney and municipal officials, they concluded there has been no wrongdoing.

The doors can’t be locked for fire and life safety reasons when people are inside, but Hessa said the group plans to post someone at the door at all times for future events.

“The only thing we’re not sure of is there may be some issues where they have a liquor license,” Smart said.

Carson said he checked with the state liquor commission and found no restrictions.

He added that no one under 21 is served beer, but that food and alcohol are served with proper identification.

Anyone under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult, Hessa noted.

“Evidently, there’s nothing in our ordinances,” City Clerk Patty Brochu said. Nudity falls under a business’ special amusement permit, which the bowling center isn’t required to have.

Because the events are private parties where people must RSVP and be placed on a list to enter, it’s not necessary to obtain such a permit.

“The big fear is that if this is allowed, how far does it escalate and how many liberties can other people take?” City Manager Peggy Daigle said Monday.

The city has contacted the state liquor commission to ensure there wasn’t an issue, but hadn’t received a reply as of Monday evening.

Hessa said she hopes that no one tries to create new laws or ordinances because of the group’s activities.

“We’re not doing anything sexually explicit, and we’re not out there doing it on Main Street,” she said.

About 60 households belong to Bare Nekkid Mainers, and 30 to 40 people have participated in each bowling event in Old Town. As self-described naturist nudists, the Bare Nekkid Mainers belong to an international nudist organization and participate in nudist events throughout the year.

The group used to bowl in Albion, but that venue has closed. Hessa said the group has been looking for a new facility ever since.

“There’s no sexual overtones in any way,” Hessa said. “We just like to do things a little different, and it’s all just plain fun.”

People come from as far as 150 miles away for the naked bowling in Old Town, Hessa said. Some get hotel rooms for the night, and she stressed that they spend money on food and other amenities while they’re here.

“Economically, it’s tourism at its best,” she said.

Carson was notified by one of his employees last September that the event had been booked and that extra help would be needed for the event.

“I kind of chuckled a little bit and said, ‘I’ll be there,’” Carson said.

“I’m not ashamed of anything,” Carson said. He turns the thermostat up to make his patrons more comfortable.

The event is handled like any private party, such as a birthday or retirement gathering, he said.

“It was odd for me, too,” said Carson, who has been working at bowling lanes since he was 12.

As for business, there hasn’t been any impact now that word has gotten out. After all, it is a private party, Carson stressed.

“Everybody’s laughed at it, to be honest with you,” he said. “These people are the cleanest people that you’ve ever met in your life.”

Each participant brings a towel to sit on, and they all clean up after themselves.

“I wish every group was this clean,” Carson said. “If people’s minds wander, turn it off. Nothing happens at all.

"Nude hack pours scorn upon the great clothed

Thongs for the memory

By Nick Farrell: Tuesday 30 January 2007, 07:50

SO ACCORDING to Computerworld, the latest thing to hit the IT world is naked telecommuting.
Apparently there are even clothing optional hotels opening up in the US for those who want to use their lap-tops in the altogether, says the silly magazine.

Computerworld did a survey last year that said that one in eight males and one in 14 female teleworkers did the job with nothing on, but now it appears that the numbers are on the up.

The tired old IT rag quotes Tom Mulhall, who runs a hotel where 80 per cent of guests bring laptops and work in the nude by the pool. We are not quite sure how it works as the last laptop we used for any length of time got a bit warm near our nadgers and it could be we still have Dadhood within, so it's a risky thing.

Mulhall said that many nude teleworkers feel that what they are doing is like an act of defiance for having to work at home or on vacation.

Most of those who are in conservative fields such as law, banking, accounting, finance, don't tell others that they are working in the nude.

However, those in creative or entrepreneurial businesses feel comfortable telling others they work with nothing on.

Mulhall warns the new generation of naked telecommuters to be careful and check that the webcam is not on [switched off, Ed.], and that picture attachments contain what you think they do. More here. These hacks should try working for the INQ because Armani thongs are the order of the day here. Honest."

The bare facts about naked telecommuting

For the owner of a clothing-optional spa, it's no joke. But it is difficult to attach a cell phone or BlackBerry

Bob Brown

January 29, 2007 (Network World) --

We've all heard the jokes about what our colleagues who work from home are wearing -- or not. For Tom Mulhall, though, telecommuting naked is no joke. Rather, it's good business. The owner (along with his wife) of The Terra Cotta Inn clothing-optional resort and spa in Palm Springs, Calif., Mulhall wrote to us this week "just wearing a smile" to say that 80% of their guests bring laptops and work nude poolside. He was commenting on a study we wrote about last year that found one in eight male teleworkers and one in 14 female teleworkers say they do their jobs in the nude. I followed up with Mulhall and asked him a few questions about computing in the altogether.

How far back would you say guests first started whipping out their laptops to work in the nude at your resort? Guests used laptops poolside before 9/11, but I think 9/11 was a major turning point for people working harder and longer hours. Since then, so many people are so worried about losing their jobs. They have seen so many of their friends downsized. The job market has not been the best in all fields. That is when the whole 24/7 concept really took off with employees being tied to doing so much work from home or on vacations or forgoing vacations. Many people feel that they can't get away for a vacation unless they have their laptops with them.

Do these guests let on to colleagues that they are working in the buff? Some say, "Ha, ha, I am working poolside in my birthday suit, and it is sunny and in the 80s outside; jealous?" More guests, however, just quietly chuckle to themselves saying, "If only they" -- meaning the office -- "could see me now." Many guests also tell us that working in the nude feels like an act of defiance for having to work at home or on vacation. If they have to be stiffly attired all week long in the office, at least they will be comfortable on their own time when they do work at home or vacation.

We find that the guests who are in conservative fields such as law, banking, accounting, finance, etc. would never tell others that they are working in the nude. Whereas those who are in more creative or entrepreneurial businesses feel comfortable telling others they work nude. Finally, those in sensitive jobs such as education, government, etc., are again very concerned about people finding out they like to work in the nude or even be nude. Remember, it was Attorney General John Ashcroft who spent all that taxpayer money covering the bare breast of the statue [of] the Spirit of Justice in Washington, D.C. There are many employers who are just as fanatically against nudity as Ashcroft.

What sort of network support do you provide? Six years ago, we just had data ports in our rooms, so we had long phone lines running out of rooms so people could use laptops by the pool with our dial-up service. We are a 17-room inn, and I had to have nine phone lines to handle all the dial-up work. A few years ago, we got Wi-Fi with routers around the resort so you can work anywhere at the hotel poolside, in the garden, in the pool, in the whirlpool or in your room.

Any videoconferencing? We have had a few guests videoconference here where they are wearing a shirt or blouse and nothing else. It is kind of funny seeing them dressed up in a dress shirt or blouse and nothing else.

Where do guests attach their cell phones or BlackBerries when they roam around the resort? Since guests aren't wearing bikinis, there are no bikini holsters for cell phones or BlackBerries. I wish I could tell you there is a special "boob tube" for cell phones or "sock jock" for holding BlackBerries, but nothing that creative. They just use their hands to hold the equipment.

Any advice to those looking to give naked telework a whirl? Get a laptop with good screen resolution. Since Palm Springs is very sunny, we have seen guests with a towel over there head and laptop to cut down glare. Otherwise, you will be forced to work in the shade. Also don't use a laptop at the edge of the pool while you are in the water. Laptops, a few cocktails and pool water do not mix, as we have seen a few times.

Do you know of people who have sought out telecommuting jobs to satisfy their desire to work naked? Yes, we have some guests mainly in the high-tech field that purposely freelance so that they can live nude at home. They just dislike wearing clothes, and freelancing out of their homes is the best thing that has ever happened to them. I would say, however, that most of our guests do not consider themselves nudists. They are regular people who just enjoy nude sunbathing on their vacations.

What other changes have you seen among the behavior of your telecommuting guests? When we first opened 12 years ago, our guests demanded blocked phone lines. They didn't want their bosses and kids to know where they were staying because of caller ID. Nowadays, they don't use room phones to call home or the office; they use their cells.

Any other words of wisdom? If you are vacationing at a clothing-optional resort and sending vacation pictures to your friends at work, home or your mother, make sure you double-check exactly which pictures you are sending as attachments.
Osbournes kicked off a nude beach in Spain

We have been to Spain a few times and to Mallorca and their nude beaches are beautiful. there is more to this story then is reported. My assumption is the Osbournes were there with an entourage and were quiet disruptive.

In Europe, some of the nude beaches are private beaches. I'll bet this was a private beach. It is good that the beach owner kicked their butts off the beach. That way they weren't spoiling the nice vactions of others.

Who goes to a nude beach and does not participate? Get real Osbournes.

OSBOURNES CHUCKED OFF NUDIST BEACH
From contact music.com

SHARON and KELLY OSBOURNE were thrown off a nudist beach on a Spanish vacation - because they wouldn't strip. The pair were stunned to be asked to leave the stretch of sand on the island of Mallorca. Kelly explains, "I went to Mallorca with my mum and we were on a beach and asked to move because we wouldn't go topless. It was my worst holiday."

A local government official wants to shut down a nude beach in Australia

I am a past president of the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. I also sat for 2 years on the Palm Springs City Council finance committee. I understand the workings of local governments. Whenever there seems to be a "problem" because something is "different" their "solution" usually is to ban it.

In Australia, a local government official wants to close down some nude beaches because of a perceived problem from "perverts." There is a poll in their local paper about whether the nude beach should be shut down.

Now the local Free Beaches Australia president gave a great suggestion, promote the beaches as a tourist destination. Duh!!! Why didn't the local government official think of that? Isn't he supposed to promote the local business community?

Here in the US, Haulover Beach in Miami was a dangerous spot until it was made into a legal nude beach with lifeguards and police protection and now it is the most popular beach in Florida. South Beach at Miami beach was also a very dangerous, run down area. It was made a legal topless beach in the 80's and now it is the trendiest beach in America.

Here in Palm Springs, we bought an old celebrity resort that was originally the Monkey Tree hotel. Now we have the 2nd highest occupancy rate of all hotels in town. Only the casino hotel is busier than us. We are so popular with our local government that the Palm Springs tourism department just issued a press release this month bragging about our being awarded one of the top places in the world to go nude sunbathing by the Vancouver Sun newspaper in Canada.

In Australia, a local government official wants to shut down a nude beach. Here in Palm Springs, local government officials brag about the success of us, a nudist resort. Go figure!

When a nude beach or nude resort is run properly, they can be very successful. So Mr local government official in Australia, instead of wanting to ban the nude beaches, be creative, support them, advertise them and who knows, you may get a major tourist destination.

Exposed! Nude poll rort

Michaela Farrington

29Jan07

Nude sunbathers at Torquay's Point Impossible.
AN international nudist chat-room has urged its members to vote in support of nude beaches in a Geelong Advertiser online poll.

Hundreds of votes have flooded into the poll since a Bendigo member of the chatroom clothesfreeforums.com, posted the call to action on the website on Australia Day.

``We are currently engaged in a battle to save three of the four legal free beaches in Victoria, Australia,'' the member, Rob, wrote.

Naturists from as far away as Pennsylvania in the United States as well Surrey in the United Kingdom pledged to vote in the Geelong Advertiser poll, which asks: should nude beaches be banned?

The poll had received 383 votes at midday today, and 92 per cent of the votes were against nude beach bans.

The debate was sparked late last year when Surf Coast Shire councillor Ron Humphrey called for nude bathing to be banned at Torquay's Point Impossible.

Cr Humphrey said last year the beach was used as a gay beat, attracting perverts and flashers.

But Free Beaches Australia president Anita Grigg said the shire needed to promote Point Impossible as a tourist destination across Australia and internationally rather than shut it down.

See the poll at http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au Also vote there.

A naturist park is allowed to stay open in England

The city council approved a naturist park to stay open. The nudist campground had been operating for 5 years before the local city council learned about it. They then decided that it was OK to operate as a nudist camp.

The city planning officer said "I think if we had been told at the beginning what was intended, then I don't think planning permission would have been given," he
said. "I think it was using the term leisure a bit too loosely."

This is such a sad situation. Their planning commission would have reject the nudist park just because it promoted nudism without knowing that it can be a good neighbor. So many government officials have such a wrong idea about nudist resorts.

As I have always said, the nude recreation industry can so easily be legislated out of business, that is why I am always so worried about swinger businesses pretending to be real nudist resorts.

Fenland nursery bares all
23 January 2007
WEB EDITORIAL - webdesk@herts24.co.uk

Parklands country park at Four Gotes
NAKED volleyball, naked table tennis and a stroll through the grounds, naked of course, have reversed the fortunes of a Fenland nursery.

Parklands country park at Four Gotes near Wisbech has also won the seal of approval from Fenland Council - even though officers say they only discovered recently the site was being used by naturists.

"Having reviewed the situation, I can no reason why the council should request an application for change of use of a leisure park to a naturist park," said planning officer Chris Peckett.

He told Malcolm Moss, the MP for NE Cambs, that when Philip Selby applied five years ago to turn Juniper Nurseries in Sutton Road, Four Gotes, to use the site for touring caravans and tents the council had no idea it was intended for naturists.

"The case officer whom dealt with the application is no longer at the authority, but it appears from the consultation responses and committee report that the authority was unaware that a naturist park was to be established," said Mr Peckett.

Later changes of use to extend and improve the park meant the council did become aware of its use.

"The issue is in the planning description, in essence the park does provide a leisure facility for its users, and thus it is difficult to argue that the description of the site as a leisure park is incorrect," said Mr Peckett.

One neighbour said the issue of privacy at the four acre site had been partially resolved by the recent addition of a 400 foot long, six foot tall fence.

"I think if we had been told at the beginning what was intended, then I don't think planning permission would have been given," he said. "I think it was using the term leisure a bit too loosely."

The neighbour added: "Personally I'm not too bothered by the naturist camp. My father in law was a bit perturbed, however, when he saw this naked bloke being chased by a woman with a stick.

Why we don't book families with kids at our resort

I just read on another blog this post about an exhausted couple coming back from their week long vacation with their toddler. The wife wrote:

"Jim and I got 4 hours of a proper vacation, by which I mean no kiddo to take care of, nothing to do (those who know will agree with me, I’m sure, that going on vacation with a toddler is on many levels actually less relaxing than the daily work/home/sleep grind)."

She continues, "A time change of two hours with a toddler is just a flippin’ disaster. It’s big enough to wreak havoc in her daily routine, but too small, especially during a week-long trip, to warrant pushing said toddler into a new one. As a result, Jim and I took turns being the lucky duck to get up at 5 a.m. and wander about the hotel with the rugrat. We also ate meals at random times and were putting her to bed at 6 p.m. because she simply couldn’t go any further... There was a lot of “Eeeeeeeeeeeeee"

She concludes next time they will drop their daughter off in Texas with grandma before they take their next vacation.

It is fun taking family vacations. We all have fond memories from our youth. However, Mom and Dad also have to be husband and wife. Studies all show that parents need time together to relax. Family therapists all advise that parents take at least 1 vacation by themselves each year. That is why we are perfect because we are for couples.

All other nudist resorts in the US cater to families and their kids which is great for them.

But, if a couple wants to getaway to be by themselves and go nude sunbathing at a couples only resort, they have to spend maybe $5000 or $6000 including airfare and have all the hassles of going to the Caribbean or Mexico, or they book with us which is why we have the highest occupancy rate of all nudist resorts in the US. We average just over a 75% repeat guest rate.

The Terra Cotta Inn is located in sunny Palm Springs, CA. Our weekly rates are very affordable starting at $799/couple/week to $959 depending on the time of the year. Palm Springs is easy to get to and no noisy kids are running around crying or screaming. You can be in husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend mode all week long. We are very destressing and the perfect setting to veg out and get an all over tan. This December, the Vancouver Sun newspaper in Canada just picked us as one of the top places in the world to go nude sunbathing.

So if you want the perfect relaxing vacation without noisy kids, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at htp://sunnyfun.com

See you in Palm Springs!
Many men are nervous about being nude

I thought this was interesting. What I would like to see is the whole survey. I will let you know if I find out more about this story.

We have alway found that probably 50% of the time men broached the subject about vacationing at nudist resorts 1st, about 25% of the time it was the woman, and about 25% of the time the man and woman are equally interested.

It is pretty sad that so many people men and woman are so insecure with their bodies and nudity. The fashion, cosmentics, and plastic surgury industries have really done a number on destroying the self esteem of people.

The beauty of nudist resorts is you see you really are not different than other people. And once you see all "normal" people are just like you, you feel much more comfortable with yourself.

From dailyrecord.co.uk a Scottish newspaper
MEN SHOW NAKED FEAR
MEN are so ashamed of their bodies they insist partners turn out the lights before they undress for bed, a survey found.

Six out of 10 men told researchers they do not feel attractive to women. Their biggest concern was the size of their love handles, followed by paranoia about having "man boobs".

One in four was worried by baldness and one in five had considered having plastic surgery.

Nude beaches abound in Spain

We have been to Europe many times. Although people think of France as having the most nude and topless beaches, it really is Spain. All beaches there are topless and it is estimated that over 700 are officially nude. What is also nice about Spain's nude beaches is you do not have to go hiking to get to them. They are in prime locations.

The Spanish feel very comfortable with nude sunbathing probably as much as the Germans where they say 1 in 7 Germans vacation at nudist resorts each year.

Now we did notice something else which is uniquely French. Where all ages go topless sunbathing, the younger crowd in their teens to early 30's (male and female) like to wear bathing suit and bikini bottoms, I guess because the French are so much into fashion. Where the Spanish of all ages are much more into nude sunbathing than the French.

Now if you want your best vacation ever where you can go nude sunbathing, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing Optional Resort and Spa a call in sunny Palm Springs CA

Starkness is Non-Issue to Spanish Folks
from tourspain.blogspot.com

If you have not been to any of Spain's delightful white sand beaches adorned with blue, cool waters and golden sunlight that can produce the most captivating tan, then you are missing half of your life -- the fun part. That's because Spanish beaches are interestingly accentuated by naked people who have no hesitation of shedding off their pieces of clothing for a warm sun bath, despite their strong Christian religion. But there is no need for panic because foreigners who are not pleased being around naked bodies of all colors, shapes, and sizes, can ditch nudist beaches, usually found in the coastal area of Spain in their travel agenda, and settle for more traditional ones where people in conventional swimsuits frequent. In most nudist beaches of today, naturism or the sense of showing off the most natural attribute of a person or in other words nudity, is as much of a requirement than a choice so it is better to check first with the certain resort you are eyeing before even taking the plunge; otherwise, prepare yourself for the surprise of your life. If you are not conditioned to see naked flesh in every turn, do not get too worried either because based on my personal expsoure, you will still enjoy the show enough to come back and check out other nudist resorts in the Spanish coast.

Burkinis in Australia

I read an interesting commentary on an Australian blog about the Burkini. Even more interesting is it was written by a nudist.

If you were to go to the beach or a resort what would you want to wear when you went swimming? Would you rather go topless or nude or stand around head to foot in a wet, cold burkini.

Have fun reading it.

And if you want to take a vacation clothes free, burkini free, come to The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing optional Resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA. Call us at 800-786-6938 and visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com You will be glad that you did!

"Wow the Burkini!

From: http://whenenoughisenough-quasi.blogspot.com/2007/01/wow-burkini.html

I was travelling home last night from work listening to the ABC, when the Burkini had a short report about it. Now I do not want to ridicule muslim women, but I do want to ridicule the draconian dress code forced upon them. Muslim women are just as entitled to go to the beach or pool as you or I, and should not be forced to wear this ridculous garb just so they can actually swim. My second point here is that if our beloved Islamic clerics get their way, this will be the summer dress of ALL WOMEN! Now I know I will get replies saying they choose to wear it as good muslim women, and I am sure that some do, but it is amazing what an ingrown fear of reprisal, and hundreds of years of being treated little better than cattle will do. So ladies which would you prefer, because this is your future here. My wife and I have been naturists for many years and prefer to go without clothes, but I will not use pictures of that because it may offend even non muslims, and I understand that, It's called choice, something we will not have under Islamic law. Burkinis in Australia

I read an interesting commentary on an Australian blog about the Burkini. Even more interesting is it was written by a nudist. Have fun reading it.

Nudist resorts save the environment

Clothes and fashion cause so many ecological problems. This is a great article from The New York Times about how damaging the textile industry is to the enviroment. Just imagine if everyone just sat on beautiful towels. That is what people do at nudist resorts.

With nude recreation the fastest growing niche in the travel industry, think how much faster it would grow if people stopped spending so much on throw away clothes.

Remember the book, The Nudist on the Late Shift. Maybe that is the correct dress code for work.

New York Times
By ELISABETH ROSENTHAL
Published: January 25, 2007
WOKING, England

JOSEPHINE COPELAND and her 20-year-old daughter, Jo Jo, visited Primark at the Peacock Center mall here, in the London suburbs, to buy presents for friends, but ended up loaded with clothes for themselves: boots, a cardigan, a festive blouse, and a long silver coat with faux fur trim, which cost £12 but looks like a million bucks. “If it falls apart, you just toss it away!” said Jo Jo, proudly wearing her purchase.

Environmentally, that is more and more of a problem.

With rainbow piles of sweaters and T-shirts that often cost less than a sandwich, stores like Primark are leaders in the quick-growing “fast fashion” industry, selling cheap garments that can be used and discarded without a second thought. Consumers, especially teenagers, love the concept, pioneered also by stores like H&M internationally and by Old Navy and Target in the United States, since it allows them to shift styles with speed on a low budget.

But clothes — and fast clothes in particular — are a large and worsening source of the carbon emissions that contribute to global warming, because of how they are both produced and cared for, concludes a new report from researchers at Cambridge University titled “Well Dressed?”

The global textile industry must become eco-conscious, the report concludes. It explores how to develop a more “sustainable clothing” industry — a seeming oxymoron in a world where fashions change every few months.

“Hmmm,” said Sally Neild, 44, dressed in casual chic, in jeans and boots, as she pondered such alien concepts, shopping bags in hand. “People now think a lot about green travel and green food. But I think we are a long way from there in terms of clothes. People are mad about those stores.”

It is hard to imagine how customers who rush after trends, or the stores that serve them, will respond to the report’s suggestions: that people lease clothes and return them at the end of a month or a season, so the garments can be lent again to someone else — like library books — and that they buy more expensive and durable clothing that can be worn for years.

In terms of care, the report highlights the benefits of synthetic fabrics that require less hot water to wash and less ironing. It suggests that consumers air-dry clothes and throw away their tumble dryers, which require huge amounts of energy.

But some big retailers are starting to explore their options. “Our research shows that customers are getting very concerned about environmental issues, and we don’t want to get caught between the eyes,” said Mike Barry, head of corporate social responsibility at Marks & Spencer, one of Britain’s largest retailers, which helped pay for the Cambridge study. “It’s a trend that we know won’t go away after a season, like a poncho.”

Customers “will ask ‘what are you doing?’ ” Mr. Barry said, noting that 70 percent of Britons shop at his chain. “So we’re doing a lot of thinking about what a sustainable clothing industry could look like in five years.”

Consumers spend more than $1 trillion a year on clothing and textiles, an estimated one-third of that in Western Europe, another third in North America, and about a quarter in Asia. In many places, cheap, readily disposable clothes have displaced hand-me-downs as the mainstay of dressing.

“My mother had the same wardrobe her entire life,” Ms. Neild said. “For my daughter, styles change every six months and you need to keep up.”

As a result, women’s clothing sales in Britain rose by 21 percent between 2001 and 2005 alone to about £24 billion ($47.6 billion), spurred by lower prices, according to the Cambridge report.

And while many people have grown accustomed to recycling cans, bottles and newspapers, used clothes are generally thrown away. “In a wealthy society, clothing and textiles are bought as much for fashion as for function,” the report says, and that means that clothes are replaced “before the end of their natural life.”

Dr. Julian Allwood, who led a team of environmental researchers in conducting the report, noted in an interview that it is now easier for British consumers to toss unwanted clothes than to take them to a recycling center, and easier to throw clothes into the hamper for a quick machine wash and dry than to sponge off stains.

He hopes his report will educate shoppers about the costs to the environment, so that they change their behavior.

There are many examples of how changing consumer priorities have forced even the most staid retailers to alter the way they do business.

Last year Marks & Spencer — Britain’s mainstay for products like underwear and shortbread — decided to go organic in its food business; it now sells only fair-trade coffee and teas, for example. Many executives regarded the shift as a foolish and risky decision, but the store found that sales jumped 12 percent. The store learned a lesson that executives think will apply to clothes.

“Morally, we know more sustainable clothing is the right thing to do, but we are more and more convinced that commercially it is the right thing as well,” Mr. Barry said. In fact, marketing the “green” value of clothing, even if costs a bit more, may provide an advantage over competitors.

Part of the problem is that neither manufacturers nor customers understand much about how and when clothing purchases degrade the environment, since these can occur anywhere from the harvest of cotton or the manufacture of synthetic fibers to how — and how often — the garment must be washed.

“We’ve got fantastic standards when it comes to food, but it is all brand-new when it comes to clothes,” Mr. Barry admitted. “We have a lot to learn.”

In their efforts to buy green, customers tend to focus on packaging and chemicals, issues that do not factor in with clothing. Likewise, they purchase “natural” fibers like cotton, believing they are good for the environment.

But that is not always the case: while so-called organic cotton is exemplary in the way it avoids pesticides, cotton garments squander energy because they must be washed frequently at high temperatures, and generally require tumble-drying and ironing. Sixty percent of the carbon emissions generated by a simple cotton T-shirt comes from the 25 washes and machine dryings it will require, the Cambridge study found.

A polyester blouse, by contrast, takes more energy to make, since synthetic fabric comes from materials like wood and oil. But upkeep is far more fuel-efficient, since polyester cleans more easily and dries faster.

Over a lifetime, a polyester blouse uses less energy than a cotton T-shirt.

One way to change the balance would be to develop technology to treat cotton so that it did not absorb odors so readily.

Also, Dr. Allwood said that “reducing washing temperature has a huge impact,” speaking of a significant drop from about 122 Fahrenheit to 105. Even better, he said, would be to drop washing temperature below normal body temperatures, but that would require changes in washing machines and detergents.

The report suggests that retailers could begin to lease clothes for a season (just as wedding stores rent tuxedos) or buy back old clothes from customers at a discount, for recycling.

But experiments along these lines have faltered. A decade ago, Hanna Andersson, an eco-conscious American clothing company, tried offering mail-order customers 20 percent credit toward new purchases if they sent back their used garments. This “hannadowns” program was canceled after two years.

People hope “we’ll find new sources of energy, so we won’t really have to change much,” Dr. Allwood said. “But that is extremely unlikely.”

To cut back the use of carbons and make fashion truly sustainable, shoppers will have “to own less, to have less stuff,” Dr. Allwood said. “And that is a very hard sell.”

And so Marks & Spencer is thinking about whether its customers will be willing to change their buying habits, to pay more for less-fashionable but “sustainable” garments. After all, consumers have shown a willingness to pay more for clothes not made in sweatshops, and some are unwilling to buy diamonds because of forced labor in African mines.

On a recent day outside Marks & Spencer on Guildford High Street, where everyone was loaded with shopping bags, Audrey Mammana, who is 45, said she was not “a throw-away person” and would be happy to lease high-end clothing for a season. She would also be willing to repair old clothes to extend their use, although fewer shops perform this task.

But, she added: “If you cut out tumble-drying, I think you’d lose me. I couldn’t do without that.”

School teacher needs to go back to school to learn about nudity and pornagraphy

A couple of weeks ago there was a story about naked comedians in Boston who perform "au naturel" at a comedy club. It has been well received. Above is a picture of one of the comedians.

Well, this school teacher, a music teacher for that matter (who should be teaching the arts not theology as she appears to do) got a bee in a bonnet. She feels that 8 year old children seeing this man is the "root of pornagraphy."

Hmmm, she sounds like she could be a school board member from Texas firing an art teacher for taking children to the Dallas Art museum where there are paintings and sculptures of nudes.

Are art museums also the "root of pornagraphy?"

She says that her school educates kids with life's basics. If she is a product of that school systems, they obviously don't teach people how to think.

She feels kids should not have to know that there is ambiguity in this world. Well MS. music teacher, I have news for you. Life is FULL of ambiguity. There are always different shades of grey. That is why you should be teaching children how to think independently, instead of just being quiet puppets. Ask a politician how much is 2+2. It is not 4, it is what the politician gets the public to believe.

I wonder how many times this woman has written to the editor of the paper protesting pictures of the results of violence. I bet NONE!

So newspapers that are dumbed down to a 12 year olds level, should now dumb down even more, so that 8 year olds won't ask questions. Yeesh!

It all goes back to my earlier post today on censorship. This woman would gladly trade away the Bill of Rights, so she can feel "safe." That is until Big Brother outlaws music I bet.

I feel sorry for this woman's students.

Letter: ‘Root of pornography:’ Naked men
Wednesday, January 24, 2007 - Updated: 04:36 PM EST
From: townonline.com Cambridge, MA

I am highly offended to see a man without clothes posing atop the title of the Jan. 11 edition of the Chronicle. As a teacher in the Cambridge Public Schools, the schools receive complimentary copies so our students can keep abreast of local news. This city’s current management may desire to be “liberal” and consider (the man’s exposure as well as the pictures of his co-workers on page 23) this a mere news report, but when curious 8-year-olds see these pictures, it becomes a root of pornography.

I think it’s unfair to expose innocent children to the polluted minds of some people in this city. Readers want to hear about the establishment encouraging its comedians to entertain in the nude, fine, write about it, but pictures are not necessary for such reporting.

I am dismayed that the reporter, publishing editor and production manager exhibit such low moral values when our city readership is so broad. In the school system, we make every attempt to educate our students with life’s basics. Clothing is basic.

I urge you to support our system without fostering a haze of ambiguity about the basics.

ABC-TV Chicago covers the "Clothing optional" play

It is good to see that this play is getting more coverage in Chicago, my hometown.

It is nice to see that the actress who is disabled talks about her personal fears about body image and then comes to the conclusion:

"I was able to take off my clothes and feel good about myself and I thought that was going to be really weird because I'm different, I have a disability so my body is different from other people's bodies and then I realized once I took my clothes off that put us all on equal grounds," said Tekki."

This is also th ebeauty of nudist resorts. Without our clothes, we are all basically the same. That is why nude recreation and nudist resorts appeal to everyone.

That is also why vacationing at nudist resorts will be your most fun vacation ever as people who like nudist resorts are the friendliest, nicest people around.

Freedom of speech is alive and well at some colleges

In these modern times it is very fashionable to give up our rights in return for more so called "security." Just look at how the Patriot Act has ripped the heart out of the Bill of Rights and how the federal govenment can read every single e-mail without a warrent. That means your e-mails to your grandparents are not even secure.

Here is a very well thought out piece by a young college student I thought you might enjoy reading.

And before you blindly give up your rights and accept what our government tells you as truth, don't forget the haunting words of Herman Goering the Nazi Reichsmarshall (Hitler's number 2 man) and Luftwaffe Chief.
"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

That is the biggest reason the FCC exists, to be our "moral" compass because if we see a naked person on TV, we will be in "greater danger." Funny how in Europe they've had nudity on network TV for decades without problems. They have a lower violence and rape rate than in the US.

"Censorship is unconstitutional
from collegiatetimes.com

January 24th, 2007

Jacob Caporaletti

"Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech." Those are the exact words of the first amendment in our constitution. Because of this law, it is illegal for the government to censor or regulate speech. Yet that's exactly what it does without any say from the people.

When the Federal Communications Commission was founded in 1934, its soul purpose wasn't to dictate what words were acceptable over the radio. Its prime function was to regulate all non-government use of the radio spectrum, which would later include TV, in accordance to telecommunication policies. They dish out licensing to networks with respect to business laws and ensure our networks are fair. But over time they have become regulators of our speech.

Many people cite the infamous "wardrobe malfunction" at Superbowl XXXVIII as a watershed moment for the FCC. Because of one woman's body part, which was exposed for barely a second, every word over the radio and image from TV was put under a magnifying glass to ensure something so vile wouldn't happen again.

Since that fateful second, common decency and morality became the golden words of politicians. FCC fines for indecency went from $30,000 to $300,000. Their logic was that such smut was having a negative impact on society and it was the FCC's job to protect the public, completely ignoring the first amendment in the process.

Some went so far as to sue Viacom and CBS for that one second. And while millions of people watched that Superbowl halftime show, only a handful of people actually complained. The vast majority of the public was either not offended or didn't care. And has the image of a single nipple caused America's youth to fall into a state of moral depravity? Society is still functioning, the world is still spinning, and people have moved on. Yet the FCC's illegal crusade continues.

Whenever a show says a dirty word, it is bleeped out. Whenever a hint of nudity appears, it is obscured or thrown out. Even though most anybody can surmise what is being said, these things are censored. And even when a network is bold enough to test the boundaries, they are slapped with a fine. That is the power the FCC is granted.

Many would say such censorship is to protect children from obscenity. And for a long time this was seen as a valid argument. There have been some studies that show kids being more aggressive when exposed to aggressive media. But at the same time, the Department of Justice has reported that crime and deviance in general has gone down over the past few decades despite growth in such content. The data is conflicting, but all logic is thrown out the window when the issues are put into the realm of morality.

For all the people who were offended by the Superbowl, there were countless more that weren't. And in order to accommodate this minority group of people, the FCC has cracked down on everybody. How is that fair to the rest of the population? A few people can't stand something so it is banned from everybody? Where is the common sense in all this? History does offer clues.

In the early years of TV and radio, there were only a handful of networks. The channels watched by children were also shared with adults. Back then there were no rating systems, locks or V-chips for people to use to manage content. But since then more choices have emerged. Networks aren't restricted to broadcasting material through limited mediums. There are entire channels devoted to kids and adults alike. So if something is offensive to someone, they can change the channel or let technology censor it for them. So if parents want to protect their kids, they have no excuses. But instead of exercising responsibility, they point fingers. And as a result the government imposes irrational, not to mention, illegal sanctions.

It is also worth noting that the people who run the FCC aren't even elected. If they're going to dictate what is obscene, shouldn't their views reflect the majority of the people? Voting won't help since most people don't vote, so America's last refuge is the first amendment. And no matter how much the minority cries about a nipple during a halftime show, it's time lawmakers realize that they are governed by the constitution and not their own personal morality.

Censorship should not trump the first amendment as the law of the airwaves. Censoring swearing, nudity and violence won't make them go away. The vast majority of the population can do without the bleeps and blurs. The first amendment gives the gift of speech. To surrender that gift is a failure in the principles of freedom."

Clothing Optional is the name of a play in Chicago

As many people know Mary Clare and I are ex-Chicagoans having met our freshman year at Univ of illinois in Champaign.

Well we are very proud to know that a Chicago performer has a one woman show called "Clothing Optional." It is her comic narrative about her experiences at a California nudist hot springs commune (Harbon Hot Springs in Northern CA perhaps?)

Every little play or movie or book about nude recreation helps make it seem more and more mainstream. I wish the performer good luck.

A little more than a year ago, in its 2005 year-end summary, TimeOut Chicago identified 10 theater productions as the best shows of the year, only two of which—or 20 percent—were written by women. Taking this as a combination insult, challenge and mandate, a group of artists launched the 20% Theatre Company to produce plays written, designed and directed by women that concern issues affecting the American female experience. In the short space of one year, the company has produced six plays.

...Crip Slam Sundays is part of the Victory Gardens Theater Access Project, and it offers readings, presentations and life performances by and about persons with disabilities. The renamed series gets off to a good start Jan. 28, 7:30 p.m., at the Victory Gardens Greenhouse, with a program by one of our favorite artists: writer, producer and performer Tekki Lomnicki. Her solo performance, Clothing Optional, is Lomnicki’s comic narrative of her experiences at a clothing-optional California hot-springs commune. All Crip Slam Sundays events are captioned, features sign language interpretation and are wheelchair-accessible. Your $10 ticket includes a post-show reception.

A Real nice e-mail from first time nudists

Last night, I received this nice e-mail from some first timers who were here for 8 nights in December and January. They had flown into Las Vegas first before coming here.

I remember how the wife was very nervous the first day here, finally went nude sunbathing, and then loved the rest of her vacation. Staying at nice nudist resorts like ours truly is the best way to travel.

The other interesting note is the last line where the guests say don't use our names, but it is OK to use this e-mail. Word of mouth in the nudist industry is still terrible. Where else do you find people who have one of the best vacations of their lives and are too terrified to tell anyone else about it?

It is sad that so many people have to stay in the closet.

These guests were high level executives at a conservative company and are worried about their jobs it anyone ever found out that they now liked vacationing at nudist resorts.

As I have said before, once some A list celebrities start saying who much they enjoy vacationing at The Terra Cotta Inn or other clothing optional resorts, then you will really see this travel niche take off.

And if you want your best vacation ever, give us a call at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com You will be glad that you did!

"Tom, Mary, and the nice Staff of Terra Cotta,

Carol and I would like to express our appreciation for the way we were treated and for the wonderful experience that we had at Terra Cotta. What says it better than the fact that we only left the resort 3 times and 2 of those were related to my wife being sick. Hospitality is almost a thing of the past but that is what we felt when around you. It was as if you had taken us into your home. We felt welcome and safe at TC.
The people that we met were more friendly than we have met at any resort anywhere in the world. I guess that there is something about being nude that takes the barriers down. I know that my wife felt comfortable after 1 day and that is saying a lot. We come from a very conservative background. I'm not sure that we could have felt as comfortable at any other resort.
We both agreed that we should have skipped Las Vegas and just went directly to TC. We are considering how TC should fit into our vacation plans in the future. Our general philosophy is that life is too short to go to any place twice but we might make an exception. So far there are two places on earth where we have been and would like to go back. Fiji is one and TC is the other. TC is a lot less expensive and a lot closer.

PS: If you want to use this email in any way please do not use our real names."

"Dissolvable Dress Makes a Statement - Let It Rain?
from trendhunter.com

Making a political statement about our throwaway society, the dissolvable dress erodes to nothing once exposed to water. The dress is meant to highlight the fact that plastics can be made friendlier.

This is the ultimate in disposable fashion. A symbol of our throwaway society - not to mention the stuff of male fantasies. But, to the professors who designed this disappearing dress, it is a profound artistic statement about how plastics can be made to be kinder to our polluted planet. Here is the world's first dissolvable dress, the culmination of a creative partnership at the University of Sheffield between the award-winning designer Prof Helen Storey and Prof Tony Ryan, a leading chemist, to show off new materials that can make consumer products less environmentally harmful."

And we think we have it bad with the American government always playing big brother with our rights

Here in the USA, we have had governments from local to federal in different parts of the country try to ban nude beaches, prevent nudist resorts from opening, ban nudity in plays and art, prevent art museums from showing nude artwork, etc., etc., etc. A school board even fired an art teacher from Texas for taking her students to the Dallas art museum, even though she had signed permission slips from parents and it was approved by the principal.

With the way many government officials feel about nudity in America, I guess we are lucky American women don't wear burkas and American men have to wear robes.

Here is a story about censorship in India. I thought they were supposed to be a democracy? With the way the TV censor operates in India, he makes ex-Attorney General John Ashcroft look like a flaming liberal.

What is also scary about this story is the CEO of Sony really doesn't appear that upset about censorship.

The only good I can see in the story is at least they banned a Paris Hilton music video. Now if we can only ban her over here.

Now if don't want to worry about nude sunbathing at unofficially sanctioned nude beaches, come vacation with us at The Terra Cotta Inn clothing optional resort and spa located in sunny Palm Springs, CA. "Censorship critics slam TV channel ban
Published: Saturday, 20 January, 2007, from the gulf-times.com

NEW DELHI: Nudity, cigarettes, Paris Hilton and sexy adverts are just some of things the Indian government has tried to hide from its citizens in the last few months. Lawmakers say it is simply shielding its people from corrupting influences.

However, critics say Indian sensibilities are made of sterner stuff, and warn against the country becoming a "nanny state".

"Dasmunsi must be told he can’t go about treating us like impressionable children," the Indian Express editorial said yesterday, referring to the broadcasting minister who banned a channel for airing ‘The World’s Sexiest Advertisements’.

Priyarajan Dasmunsi is scrutinising other channels for "adult content", the Times of India reported yesterday, after banning AXN, owned by a unit of Sony, for two months earlier this week.

...In November, undercover police in Mumbai were assigned to scan the catwalks at fashion shows in an effort to prevent a repeat of last year’s episode in which a model’s top slipped to reveal her breasts.

Censors banned Paris Hilton’s music video ‘Stars Are Blind’ from being shown on television in August, which shows the blond socialite cavorting on a beach in revealing clothes.

The government last year also tried to ban smoking scenes in films, reasoning that cigarette-wielding Bollywood stars were influencing people to take up the habit.

Kunal Dasgupta, CEO of Sony Entertainment India, said he was less upset about censorship than the fact that the censors seemed to used their powers randomly.

"Who’s to say one show is raunchier than the other?" he said. "Things are kind of arbitrary and we’re still waiting for the limits to be defined."

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Teri Hatcher insists she has no problem with on screen nudity - and would happily bare all if the right role came along.

The 'Desperate Housewives' actress - who has appeared partially naked in 'Desperate Housewives' and topless for a sex scene in the 1994 movie 'The Cool Surface' - insists she is comfortable with her body and is willing to display it when a part demands it.

Teri, 42, said: "I have done nude scenes before and I would do again. I look at each role and each scene uniquely, that's when I judge if nudity is called for or not. If it was appropriate I would do it again."

Teri is not the only actress to express her ease with nudity.

Scarlett Johansson recently vowed to strip for a movie - one day.

'The Black Dahlia' actress, famed for her curvaceous body, insists she is ready to strip on the big screen for the right part.

She said: "I'm still making up my mind about when I'll do a nude scene. I'm not opposed to doing nudity, it would just have to be the right project, maybe some sensational European art film."

Drew Barrymore says she loves to get naked

Drew Barrymore the famous child actress of ET and recently of the Charlie's Angels fame says she is happy running naked in fields. She says she it gives her a feeling of feeling free with nature.

In this interview, she recalls all her boss gave her some profound advice, "Just go find your dreams." That is when she decided to get back into acting.

Life is so short. So many people always are worrying about what is the "proper" thing an adult should be doing. The reality is as long as what you are doing is not hurting yourself or others, then it probably is "proper."

So many people don't go to nudist resorts as they are too afraid, "what if the neighbors or our kids find out." Thus, they miss out on the experience of nude sunbathing which is one of lifes bigger joys.

Drew says "you are dealt the cards that your dealt. You can let that be your downfall or a springboard to become something better."

We hear all the time, "I would love to come to your resort, I just need to lose some weight. And do you know what, it probably never happens. And these people miss out on the fun of nude recreation by wating for that perfect time to visit.

So follow Drews advice. Live life to the fullest and don't put off to tomorrow what you can be enjoying today.

Cheeky Drew Barrymore admits she is happy to bare her bum and streak naked in a field when she thinks no-one is looking.

The Charlie's Angels star says that, at 31, her wild days are not behind her and she is not as sensible as she looks.

She says, "I'll drive in Ireland and park my car and run out into the field and rip all my clothes off and just run in the wheat fields naked.

"That's for no-one to see. That's to have that freedom of feeling, like, at one with nature. So I am completely unguarded still."

...Ten years ago the actress stunned TV viewers when she leapt on to chat show host David Letterman's desk and flashed her breasts.

"How fun was that?" she says. "I'm so glad I was so free at one point in my life."

Barrymore admits though that now she owns production company Flower Films, people think she is responsible.

But she says there is still a "free" spirit and sometimes feels the urge to strip naked and run around outside.

"I think it alarms people, because I'm so responsible now that when I do do it, it's almost surprising rather than, 'Oh, that's just her doing her thing again'."

...The actress was using alcohol and cocaine at the age of 12, was in rehab at 13 and by 15 was considered to be a washed up child star. Even the customers at the coffee shop where she worked looked down on her...

One of those people heckling her was her boss. She says, "You know how they have the pastry cases, the plastic things that go on top of the dish?

"I was washing them one morning and he walked in and goes, 'Not with the abrasive side of the sponge! You're scratching them!'

"I was like, 'Oh, I'm so sorry, Robert. I really suck at this job, don't I?'.

"He was like, 'Yes, you do. You suck'.

"But his parting words changed my whole life. He said: 'Just go find your dreams'."

Barrymore followed the advice and tried to re-start her acting career while still in her teens.

...With her career improving, Barrymore's love life started to suffer. The actress, who recently split with Strokes' drummer Fabrizio Moretti, her boyfriend of four years, has two failed marriages under her belt.

...Drew says she has even made peace with her troubled childhood. Despite her tumultuous relationship with mum Jaid and her long-term estrangement from her late father John Barrymore, she has forgiven her parents.

"It was hard. You want to place blame on people but I don't think it's fair," says the actress who reconciled with her father before he died in 2004.

"You're dealt the cards that you're dealt. You can let that be your downfall or a springboard to become something better.

"For me, I just thought, 'What a waste of time to be angry at my parents? What a waste of time to feel sorry for myself?'. "The best thing I can do is learn all the things I've learned from them, good and bad, have my own family someday and just keep on going.

"So many things are thrown at us as human beings, but you can't let any of them get you down, or you're just going to be defeated."

Nudists should be ambassadors for nudism

This article is from Australia, where they have around 20 legal nude beaches. Here the issue is some men who are walking naked in the textile area. This beach has been nude for over 20 years, yet a resident is now complaining because some men are walking naked in the textile area and her complaint got picked up by their local media.

Unfortunately, people will say that naturists are not being repectful of the clothed beachgoers, whereas it is only a few jerks who obviously do not know the true meaning of being a nudist or naturist. And one of the meanings is you don't walk nude in the clothed part of the beach.

The sad thing is a few bad people can get a nude beach shut down even if 99.9% of all the nude sunbathers are well behaved and follow the rules of proper behavior.

So next time you are at a nude beach, remember, you are an ambassador for nude sunbathers.

And if you want a fantastic, fun vacation, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn Clothing optional resort and spa a call in sunny Palm Springs, CA at 800-786-6938. Visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com You will be glad that you did!

"Pt Addis problems exposed

19Jan07

A CONCERNED Bells Beach resident is calling for clear signage indicating where an optional clothing beach begins after incidents involving naked men intimidating women.

The optional clothing area, which stretches for about 1km along Point Addis, adjoins a public bathing area or ``free'' zone and residents say some male nudists are using the lack of clearly defined boundaries as an excuse to walk naked among young families.

Katrina Simpson, whose family has lived close to the beach for more than 20 years, said there had been isolated incidents throughout that period and an increase in the past five years, culminating in some kind of offensive incident every day this year.

``There's naked males walking up the access track to the road _ that is clearly not an optional dress area,'' Mrs Simpson said.

``There is a lack of clear signage. I spoke with (someone at) Parks Victoria who said they had put up signs that were removed the same day.''

She said an incident on Tuesday highlighted the need for signage, as a naked man in his 40s approached three women sunbathing on the beach.

Mrs Simpson said the man wandered nude among families and groups of beach users before attempting to talk to the women in a ``quite predatory'' manner.

Torquay Police Sergeant Brian McKiterick said police were not aware of any formal complaints about offensive behaviour at Point Addis this month.

``There will be further operations involving covert police and uniformed police over the summer period when the majority of these incidents occur,'' Sgt McKiterick said.

Posing in Playboy Magazine gets Air Force Sgt. Manhart relieved of duties

The Air Force relieved Sgt. Michelle Manhart of duties because she posed nude in Playboy Magazine. The reason given is because she did not live up to the Air Forces "core values of integrity, sevice before self, and excellence in all we do."

Hmmm, this comes from the same branch of the military that saw nothing wrong with paying $1000 for a hammer or $6000 for a toilet seat.

In 2004, Pentagon auditors criticized Halliburton's estimating, spending and subcontracting. The Justice Department is investigating allegations of overcharges, bribes and kickbacks. They estimated overcharges of $300 million which were APPROVED AND PAID by the military. It is now 2007, how many cheats at Halliburton were relieved of duty? How many military procurers? And these thieves have integrity?

There is such hypocrisy with the issue of Sgt. Manhart. Here she can put her body and life on the line for Uncle Sam, yet she can not show that same body in Playboy magazine which is sold in PX's. She is defending our constitution, yet can't pose in a publication that is protected by the 1st amendment.

The war is called "Iraqi Freedom." But yet Sgt. Manhart can not be free to pose in Playboy? How about if she was wearing a burka?

This is not an issue of morality but of freedom of choice for women. Lots of military men visit strip clubs, yet their private behavior is not questioned. And our military issues condoms to unmarried soldiers, but god forbid that a soldier wants to pose nude. And we won't talk about military men visiting prostitutes on their own PRIVATE time and not being relieved of duty.

The freedom to pose nude, ie freedom of the press, should be for all citizens not just civilians. And yes, soldiers are still citizens of the US and protected by the constitution.

If standards of integrity were enforce with Halliburton, military procurers, honesty from our politicians as to why we got into Iraq, etc. then maybe the Air Force could take the higher moral ground. But, their reaction here is pathetic.

And whether you feel Playboy is a sexist magazine pandering to men or is artistic with tasteful nudity with good articles, that is not the issue. The real issue is who controls Sgt Manhart's body when she is off duty, the government or her. Military men can go to strip clubs, yet she can't strip.

Maybe our government should start worrying about our loss of freedoms instead of other countries freedoms. Is seeing a soldiers bare breasts and nipples in Playboy magazine really worth trashing the Bill of Rights over?

I wish Sgt Manhart good luck.

"...Air Force staff sergeant Michelle Manhart was relieved of her duties for posing nude in Playboy Magazine.
The military is currently investigating the incident...

In Playboy's February issue, which hits newsstands this week, Michelle Manhart is photographed in uniform screaming and holding weapons under the headline "Tough Love." On the subsequent pages she can be seen partially clothed, wearing her dog tags while working out, as well as completely nude.

"This staff sergeant's alleged action does not meet the high standards we expect of our airmen, nor does it comply with the Air Force's core values of integrity, service before self, and excellence in all we do," Oscar Balladares, spokesman for Lackland Air Force Base, said in a statement.

...Manhart is married with two children. She joined the Air Force in 1994, spending time in Kuwait in 2002. She reportedly trains airmen at Lackland."

More on nudists, naturists, nudist colonies, nudist resorts, and clothing optional resorts

In the above picture are these women nudists, naturists, or nude beach naturists? Since only one is sitting on a towel, is she the only true nudist? I'm just having some fun with this post.

I just posted about how an "experienced" nudist was confused thinking that since we The Terra Cotta Inn, call ourselves clothing optional, everyone sits around our resort wearing clothes or bathing suits.

I saw this article below. If "experienced" nudists are confused about terminology, what about non nudists like the writer. This article is a good example of confusion.

This student says naturists are not nudists. I for one use the terms interchangeably, but being an American use the word nudist more often. If I was British, I would say naturist more often.

She thinks nudism "centers on simply being naked" and is linked to Americans, whereas naturism is about "removing social barriers [and]...you are unclad publically or with other people in a social setting."

If you ask me, her definition of naturism is the exact same as American's definition of nudism.

I think the difference between nudists and naturists is simply a language difference and nothing more. British people use the expression "starkers" or "get your kit off" we say get naked. We say when you drive, you are driving in the "lane", British people call a "lane" a "carriageway". It is the same thing, just a different word, just as nudism and naturism mean the same thing.

Just like British nudists say "clothists" for people who wear "swimming costumes" (a british expression), American naturists say "textiles" for people who wear "swimsuits".

Now just because you are naked, it does not mean you are a nudist or naturist as to be one you need to enjoy socializing in the nude.

Confusing? You bet. Isn't the English language fun.

But, the bottom line is no matter what you call vacationing at a nudist resort, nudist camp, naturist resort, naturist camp, nude beach, nudist colony, skinny dipping, etc. once you have been nude sunbathing with other like minded people, you will love it and never want to take a regular vaction at a boring chain hotel again.

And if you want your best vacation ever, give us, The Terra Cotta Inn a call at 800-786-6938 or visit our site at http://sunnyfun.com You will be glad that you did!

P.S. The writer did come to the correct conclusion about nudism and naturism. "As long as no one is getting hurt, who cares." If only our government "leaders" were so enlightened.

"The naked truth: Naturism in Iceland from Icelandreview.com

My name is Nanna Árnadóttir and I’m a sprightly Icelandic lass...

I will soon become the editor of my University newspaper...

The other night I watched Confetti, the rather unsuccessful but lovable mockumentary on three couples competing to have the most creative wedding ceremony. One of the couples wanted to have a naturist wedding. In other words, a nude wedding.

It should, at this point, be noted that I am not trying to be controversial and the spontaneous question “I wonder if there are nudists in Iceland?” was an innocent one. My father laughed when I asked if he had heard of nudists in Iceland “Nudists? In Iceland? They’d have to be bonkers!”

Bonkers or no, there is in fact a naturist community in Iceland. They have coincidentally also just published an English version of their website: Naturists however, are not nudists. Although both terms refer to being naked and both nudists and naturists promote a bare all lifestyle there are subtle differences between the two.

Nudism centers on simply being naked and is a title linked to Americans where as naturism is more of a European expression. Naturists believe that they are getting in touch with nature and removing the social barriers that come with clothing. That is to say you don’t have to worry about how ‘now’ your clothes are, what label you are wearing or if you fit in...

Some quirky ‘naturisms’ include canuding which refers to canoeing in the nude. Clothist, is the nick name for everyone who is not a social nudist. Being naked at home post shower or on a Sunday morning is all well and good but you don’t qualify as a proper naturist until you are unclad publicly or with other people in a social setting.

As an Icelander I can easily say that I am not surprised there are naturists in Iceland. We are like a jumble of different inclinations and principles both naughty and idyllic coexisting on a 103,000 square kilometer rock. As a clothist I would conclude that as long as no one is getting hurt, who cares?"
