Rebecca Romijn does not have a problem with nudity

Rebecca Romijn, the model turned actress said she does not have a problem with nudity. However she points out that the rest of the US does.

This Californian actress of dutch parents, who hosted MTV's Style House for 3 years, starred in X-Men, and now has a role in the popular TV show Ugly Betty, correctly tells it like it is for many Americans. Many have a phobia about nudity.

I do disagree that "the REST of the country" has a problem with nudity since 25% of Americans have gone skinny dipping in mixed company. It is just the radical religous right who complain about nudity and their blind followers and politicians pandering for votes who have a problem. Also sadly because Hollywood and Madison Avenue advertisers equate nudity with sex, many other people can not envision being nude as doing something fun or wholesome like they do in Europe.

Hopefully Rebbecca Romijn will change her mind about doing nude scenes in the US. For instance Halle Berry and and Charlize Theron appeared topless in some movies and they both won Acadamy awards. But, she has to be true to her own comfort level as there is a big difference between nude sunbathing and appearing topless or nude in a movie.

From 4/24/07
"I'd never do nudity in this country - like in Playboy or something. I don't have a problem with nudity, but the rest of the country does." REBECCA ROMIJN on why she has never appeared in Playboy." Here is Rebecca on the cover of GQ magazine.

Great news bite... and you know I'll stay tuned into your blog for more. :) This topic is something I've been battling/researching/experiencing all my life... very interesting topic and one I hope both/all of us can help educate and enlighten the American population on. ;)

It's also interesting that I approach the nation's majority view on nude modeling the opposite of how Rebbecca does... that's exactly why I want to pose. ;)

Hi Tara,
Thanks for posting. Nude modeling is so normal. From the cavemen, to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, people modeled nude. Michelangelo's David was nude!

It is only these modern times in the US where the radical religious right wing extremists want everyone to feel shame concerning nudity.

And unfortunately they do scare away a lot of people such as Rebecca Romijn from doing nude modeling or acting in the US.
