How to tell if a Nudist Resort is a Vacation Resort like TCI or just another nudist Weekend Getaway

Not all nudist resorts are the same. For instance, in the western US, we are the ONLY nudist resort that caters to couples on vacation. So we are popular 7 days a week, not just Saturday nights like typical naked places.

Are days like Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day BBQ's all celebrated on Saturdays, or are the celebrated on the actual holiday. For instance most nudist resorts have BBQ's this Saturday May 25th because they will be pretty empty on Memorial Day Holiday May 27th.

Because we're a vacation resort. We are busy Monday night (we just have a few rooms left). So we have our BBQ on Monday May 27th the actual holiday.

Budget Travel Magazine 2 years ago had an article about suntanning. They cited the usual medical and drug industry messages of the sun is bad for you, blah, blah, blah. Of course they ignore the fact that because of people listening to the medical and drug industries there is a epidemic of Vit D deficiency.

Sunshine is free – it has no marketing department for its life-giving benefits. If pharmaceutical companies patented and sold sunshine, the message we would receive would be completely different. In America, the anti-sun medical and drug industries earn over $35 billion a year demonizing the sun. And they've done a great job. They have convinced so many people that the sun is bad for you. They have done such a good job, that now 75-80% of Americans have a Vitamin D deficiency (I guess the other 20-25% are nudists). And Vit D has been shown to help prevent at least 16 different cancers (including skin cancer), heart disease, and more.

The drug companies want to sell you expensive Vit D supplements which have been shown to not be as effective as your own bodies production of Vit D nor as bio-compatible.

It is estimated that at least 600,000 breast and colon cancer deaths each year could be prevented in the US alone if we had more Vit D. Compare this to WORLD WIDE only 48,000 deaths from skin cancer per year. The risk reward ratio is way on the side of the sun. The University of San Diego medical school is doing a 5 year study just started last year on the relationship between Vitamin D deficiencies and the explosion in breast cancer world wide.

People don't realize that the American Drug and medical profession don't want you in the sun so they can sell you Vit D, all sorts of chemicals in sunscreen etc. It is BIG business in the US. And Americans are the biggest market for daily sunscreen, especially women under age 50.

In Italy, their dermatology association recommends people get at least 2 hours a day, maximum sun exposure 3 times a week for Vit D purposes.

As everything in life, use moderation.

So don't let the drug industry scare you away from the sun.

This means if a 3 year old boy is swimming shirtless at a public pool, it's OK. If a 3 year old girl innocently takes off her bathing suit top to join him before her mother can stop her, she just committed a felony.

This idiot politician doesn't know that the same stupid arguments he's using about the sexual depravity of a woman showing her bare breasts were said about women showing their bare ankles in the late 1880's. I guess this is the start of the Burkafying of America.

In A Landmark Ruling, PGA to go Clothing Optional

Since Tiger is still not out of the Woods, in order to increase the popularity of golf, the PGA ruling committee voted to relax its dress code rules by allowing golfers to play clothing optional.

Ian Duffer, the Scottish representative to the PGA stated "Golf is perceived by many as a very old fashioned sport with very strict dress codes. Players were required to wear funny looking, expensive clothes. This kind of outdated dress code and including the high cost of playing 18 holes, prevented most people from trying golf. By allowing playing to golf in their birthday suits, PGA management hopes more people will want to and be able to afford to play the game."

Chip Mulligan, the Palm Springs Golf President says this new rule will handicap the rest of the golf world unless they change their rules too. He said, "I can't imagine playing golf clothing optional in Toronto or London in April, yet here in Palm Springs where we already have many famous nudist resorts, with our sunny skies and temps in the 80's, we are the 'sweet spot' of the golf world. Everyone will want to play our courses."

The new rules go into effect today on April 1st. This rule change will also make the 19th hole much more fun.

Palm Springs Modernism Week starts Today February 14th and runs to the 24th - Come stay at the ONLY Historic mid-century modern Nudist Resort in the US

South Beach has Art Deco buildings. Chicago has it's magnificent skyline. San Francisco has their Painted Ladies. And Palm Springs, California is famous for mid-century modern architecture. Skinny Dippers are extremely lucky as they get to stay at one of the most famous Mid-Century Modern designed hotels in the world, The Terra Cotta Inn.

Palm Springs has a "Modernism Committee" that determines what properties they should promote and which should be "Swept under the carpet." Guess which famous hotel the modernism committee doesn't want anyone to know about? That's right... us, The Terra Cotta Inn. We are the best kept mid-century modern secret in ALL the Palm Springs area.

There were many modernist architects in the 1950's and 1960's, but one of the most famous is Albert Frey. He designed only a few hotels in the Palm Springs area. His most famous is our resort. Albert Frey is considered the father of desert mid-century modernism.

Above is a photo of Mary Clare and Albert Frey in front of our hotel shortly after we bought it in 1994. Mr. Frey called us as he saw an article about our resort in our local newspaper, the Desert Sun and he immediately recognized it as the hotel he designed which was originally called The Monkey Tree.

The Monkey Tree was built for celebrities. That's why we have very large rooms (300-500 square ft.). We were built with very high walls to protect the privacy of the celebrities that stayed here. We have learned that guests such as Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Desi & Lucy, Spencer Tracy, Katheryn Hepburn, President Kennedy, Marilyn Monroe, and many others used to stay here. To this day, we still get some celebrities from time to time as we are the nicest nudist resort in Palm Springs. Just this December 30th, 2012 the Los Angeles Times Sunday travel section had a 2/3 page feature travel article recommending Terra Cotta Inn as the "Common Sense" place to stay in Palm Springs.

What is cool is we chatted with Albert Frey for a few hours when he was here. He told us he came up with the slanted roof line design in Palm Springs to be in synergy with the slope of the San Jacinto mountains. Another thing he told us is he has always been a nudist at heart, (he's Swiss). When he was young, he used to go to Ile du Levant which is in the Mediterranean and was one of the very first organized nudist destinations in the world. Albert Frey was so proud that one of his hotels became a famous nudist resort.

Nudist Resorts and Pubic Hair Styles

It's lots of fun owning a nudist resort. We get lots of interesting questions. One of the most common ones concerns pubic hair, shaving, styles and waxing.

I originally wrote this post on 10/1/10. I'm now updating it on 1/13/13 as it is extremely popular and people still ask all the time about pubic shaving and waxing.

Here in America at nudist resorts, no one cares about your pubic hair style or lack of one. Now I will say that most women "style" their pubic hair instead of letting it grow natural. But, it's a fashion choice. It has nothing to do with whether you're a first timer, experienced nudist or naturist or just a nude vacationer.

While it is a given that most women shave their pubic regions completely bare, style them, or trim them, it is now becoming popular with men.

Pubic hair shaving for men has really taken off. Cosmopolitan recently reported says 95% of American men surveyed shave or trim their pubic hair. They wrote: "Women noticed and liked it — which set fire to the trend and sent the clippers heading south. "I ask every guy at my salon why he came in," Pham says. "If he's straight, it's always, always to make his pubic area more…appetizing…to his girlfriend or women in general.'"

Shaving companies advertise women's pubic razors in mainstream American magazines. Here is an ad from a a women's magazine that Mary Clare showed me (she forgot which one). You can see the female statue has a shaped pubic region.

The ad says "Quattro for Women Trim Style. Whatever your style. The only four-blade razor and waterproof bikini trimmer in one. Shave, trim, and transform with just the flip of a handle. FREE YOUR SKIN." This is made by Schick.

Even women who are NOT nudists are into trimming and shaving pubic regions.

There is even a nickname for people with no pubic hair. They're called smoothies.

Here in America, if you trim or shave your pubic region, it is no big deal. Having little to no pubic hair is very mainstream these days. Style to please yourself.

So come as hairy or bare as you like when you vacation at Terra Cotta Inn.

Pubic shaving is not some new fad. As far back as 4000 BC Egyptian men and women shaved their pubic regions. The shaved look was also very popular in the middle ages, just look at most of the art work from that period.

For instance here is a famous painting called "The Temptation of Adam and Eve, by Masolino da Panicale." It was painted in the early 1400's. You will notice there is no pubic hair on either figure.

Now is the perfect time for a fun, romantic, unique vacation experience one that you will want to repeat over and over the rest of your lives.
